Anybody here tinted their own 124?
I'm thinking about giving it if you guys have any experience doing it.
Obviously I don't want any bubbles.
I'm looking to do the rear-view window only...(the rear passenger side windows don't work so I can't do them)
Anybody done it to your w124? Should even bother? I was just hoping to do the rear for now until I can fix the windows because the rear just looks so horrendous its embarrassing.

I've never tinted windows before, but my friend have and I see him always stress out about those damn Bubbles ... i believe it's better off just finding a descent place that tint windows for as low as 120 ... i got all my windows tinted for 120 and it was 20% tint ... if you never done, don't waste your time trying to do it unless you have a lot of time on your hands.

I have tinted all my cars myself but if you dont know what your doing i suggest not to. Also, the rear window is by far the hardest and i get that one professionally done. I do all the sides myself and after a few times doing it, it gets alot easier just like anything else. But in my opinion, if you havent done it before dont make the first time on your benz. I was "lucky" to have a ****box for my first time and i didnt care if i messed it up.
Definitely a good thing to know how to do though. I have made a lot of $$ off my friends that wanted theirs done.
Lemme know if you want to do it ill walk you through the sides

Okay I'll take your advice on the rear....but I might be interested in doing the sides!
My windows don't work right now though, so I gotta resolve that first. I need to do some research as to why they are not working.

The side and rear windows on my 300E were tinted when I got it. They were done with a bluish/purple film. At first I didn't like it for night driving but after getting used to it I think it looks good and does help protect against UV damage.

The only window that works is the front passenger side. I think it may have something to do with the console switches because I have intermittent lighting to it. Sometimes when I press the buttons the light goes off. I'm not sure how to figure it out though, I'm not that great with electrics. It took me hours and hours to wire my headunit myself.

In the front, I can hear the motor work ONLY when the lights are on. If they are off, the motor does not work. It still does not go down either way.
I replaced all the fuses in the fuse box when I got the car.
Thanks for your help so far!

That would be your window "brain" relay. I had the same problem come in at work on a 300E. Gotta replace the relay for it. Like i said before its located underneath the rear seat on the drivers side. It has 2 large connectors on the outside of it and 3 smaller ones in the middle.

Really? I would have thought it that relay had gone it would affect all windows, not 3 out of the 4.
I am somewhat handy now with resoldering, maybe I'll give it a shot if its similar to the rest of the relays in the car and see if I get any luck. Whats the worst that can happen right?

If I have no luck after resoldering, I'll take one of your hands if you find one.
Any ideas where this relay would be found in the wagon? My rears don't work either. Both fronts are fine though.

Only something with 2 vacuum lines into it. I assume for the door locks?
Do the older w124's not have this relay maybe?

No they do have the relay. Although im not sure where they are located on the wagon. Ill ask my boss tomorrow and ill get back to you. Sorry about the misleading info, i had only experienced this with the sedan thus far.

There is nothing on the drivers side. On the passenger side under foam matting is the central locking pump.
What year was/is your 300E? Maybe it was only later models?
Oh and to keep on track for thread, I'm about half way through getting tint off rear window. Its taking hours....but Windex works great for it.
What product shall I use to remove the adhesive left over? I tried this one adhesive remover, but it didn't touch it.
Heres a pic of that drivers side: Thats all that is in there...some sort of vacuum module.

I have to apologize to you. I asked my boss today if it had the relay and it doesnt. I guess only the later models have it
sorry man
As for the tint, the rear window is pain either way you look at it, putting it on or taking it off because you have to be careful of the defroster. I believe they make an window tint remover adhesive you can buy off ebay. Good luck

^ I am about 1/2 way through....I think I'm going to have someone apply it for me...but I should be able to get it off myself. I'll save some money this way.
Will post some pics soon.
