I'm trying to determine any possible options as to transmission that are an alternative to the classic 4 speed in my 88' 300ce. I need a manual somehow in there, I love the car and feel like an auto just isn't doing it justice, this being my project vehicle and all. ANY and all ideas will be appreciated.

Tremec from the Dodge viper is supposedly a fairly simple swap.

The manuals out the early 190E's work but you need a longer drive shaft then the 190E's to make it work.

You can also use the 6-speed from an M111 powered SLK or C230 Sport. You will have to fabricate a trans mount and drive shaft but the trans will bolt right up to an M103 or M104 engine.

W124
couldn't you just install manual transmission from a donor w124? if the auto box is your only problem?

In the states here its next to impossible to find 5 speed W124's. The 190e 5spd tranny will fit as stated above but you also need (correct me if I'm wrong) to locate a single mass flywheel in order to mate it up to your M103 properly. What fun a 5spd would be....

Go to 190revolution.com and there are a few 190s with 5 speed transmissions from other cars.

True, but that is the easy part. Single mass flywheels from a 2.3-16v are next to impossible to find.

My tranny is starting to act up where it shifts only when I let up on the rpms, doesn't want to shift too well when it gets so hot, and well that pisses me off at times, so has anybody here rebuilt a tranny before? Is it that bad of a headache? I see somebody mention a tranny from a M111 or from a 190E are these bolt on for automatics too??? Any additionals accessories needed if so? And aren't those tranny ment for smaller cars? Any other trannys to pick from or stronger or bigger???

Surely if you get the part number you can just order one from your local Mercedes dealer?!?!?!?!?

Mercedes is very good about making parts for all thier cars for a long time.

Yes, but in that case your transmission will be worth more than your car. STEALERship.
