WIDEBODY REAR WHEEL ARCH
Only took a few hours to layout and modify the circa 1980 911SC rear wheel flare.
Almost identical to what AMG did !!!
AMG Gen I replica body kit arriving on Thursday.
Next Saturday fitting kit and possibly start welding the passenger side flares.

Nice job but why you always start new Threat? Why you dont update old one you started? It s easier follow one threat on same car. Of course this is my opinion

Go to Mbclub UK site under the "Bodywork" forum....
Continuous thread already over 100 messages posted on it...
The bodywork is very detailed there.
The UK members have been extremely helpful as I am trying to replicate "1AMG" built by Strattons in 1988

I Totally Understand
As someone that was skeptical of the idea of ripping your car apart for this project, I have to say that I am definitely starting to understand all of this now that I have seen those beautiful wheels, the massive tires, and the look of those impressive bulging fenders taking shape. I am also truly impressed at the amount of research you have done to imitate the period appropriate modification. It really is going to be a magnificent vehicle when you get done!!!

The C124 widebody is extremely rare.
I know of none built in the USA, two in the U.K. and several in Germany and Japan.
I would guess that less then ten were built.
In comparison the C126 conversions were relatively numerous, possibly between 50 - 100.
At some point the rare cars disappear and become impossible to find let alone purchase.
I decided much like what is happening in the U.S. "Muscle Car" market to build a "replica", "repro" or "tribute" version of the famous "1AMG" 1988 320CE built by Strattons in the U.K.
This rare car is currently owned by a young man by the name of "Nick" who posts on forums as "NickGed".
The car needs restoration and sits outside of his Mum's house in the UK.
The below piicture is as it appeared in a 1988 AMG advert.
This is our target look.
The car new was probably $100K+ in 1988.
I'm doing a very thorough build thread on the MBclub UK site.
Why?
Because the Brits are avid Merc enthusiasts and they own some of the rarest AMG variants.
Parts are still available from collectors who have a deep knowledge of early AMG builds.
On Saturday I received a group of photos from a collector who owns the only known NOS AMG "W124 CE Breitverson "" widebody kit.
These kit parts do not appear in any AMG USA catalogue, only the Euro / UK catalogue.
The rear arch panel ( p/n C7880427 & C7880428 ) have an almost identical shape and contour as the 1980's 911SC sheetmetal we used.
The front wings ( p/n C78880425 & C7880426 )are an overlay, again much what we did with the stock fender arches supplied by "Joef"

Thanks Joe
The individual doing the sheetmetal is performing beyond my expectations.
Working from pix of "1 AMG " he is able to look, cut, and hammer, shape the sheetmetal add ons that we are using.
He is very precise.
Rear arch should be welded possibly tonight.
Your fronts have been welded with a picture in my above post.
He knows what to do structurally but the challenge is to match both sides !!!
Thanks again for your help !!

BEGINNING TO TAKE SHAPE
Fiberglass reinforced body filler applied to front fender.
Final shape and contour now clearly seen.
Welding on right rear tonight.
Bodykit should arrive today.

From the pics, it looks looks primer-ready! Hopefully it fits!
Front fender looking great so far! Compared to Nick's widebody, yours sure is moving along quickly!!

Call it whatever but it's fiberglass
Quality and finish seem good.
Not sure of the mounting points but probably won't use them.
Considering cutting down the stock parts and overlaying and bonding the kit.
This will give the ability to use the stock mounts and hardware.
Also will widen the front and rear to match the flare.
Will probably take a few relief cuts and some fiberglass work.
I like that it uses the stock bumper impact strips.
Deciding whether to go with fogs or air intakes...

Z...
Fitted the front AMG bumper and the fog mounting area is directly in front of my air intake plenum for the intercooler and the turbos.
Looks like it will have to be opened up, screened to bring air to the power providing bits

Right front finished ready for final paint prep...
"Joef" never knew what his stock fender arches would grow up to be !!!
Right rear welded, needs to be ground down then on to the filler.
Total labor to this point about 38 manhours...
