16in AMG Wheels

just purchased a set of 16in amg wheels for my '94 e320 sedan. after researching wheels upgrades, i decided the range was 16x7 et35/44 up to 17x8 et35/44.
seems the best combo is a 16in wheel with 225x50x16 tires. the car will have a full sportline suspension upgrade before the wheels go on.
i also purchased a set of 17in w210 sport wheels. if you all agree with me about the 16in wheel set up i'll sell the 17's. i know they work on the w144 as i had them on a '94 e320 coupe several years ago.
this car is not going to be driven as a sports sedan. just want a tight ride. like the mono bloc look. please see pics and identify the wheel origin if possible. regards, michael

205/55/16 tires are the recommended size on those wheels. Without modifications to the fenders, bigger tires would rub on my 1995 E320. I have the same wheels, although they are not chrome. I really don't like chrome and in this case the chrome seems to have ruined some of the clean edges that I so like about the AMG Aero I wheels, but to each his own.

ahh. so these are aero I's. thanks for the info. thought they were areo II's, probably because if the blurred lines you mentioned.
i agree, the chrome finish does change the appearance. they will be refinished and painted or powder coated prior to installition. any suggestions on color?
are your wheels exactly the same(same part #)? do you know which model car they were originally on? thanks, michael

May I ask where you turned those wheels up? I have a set, exact same as yours, and Kens are also the exact same set.

Very nice looking wheels, althrough most board members will say 17" or 18" wheels fill the fender best. I've been up to 18 and down to 15, and prefer 16 and 17 inch wheels for ride, and 18s for looks.

Also not a fan of chrome (though it looks great on our black car), but can't wait to see them painted and bolted up on your car.

They were made for the 190e's, I think.

If you decide to sell 'em, keep my email addy around: rich@benzly.com

midasmike - nice rims. I agree they will look better painted. The difference between 16 and 17 inch rims will be difficult to tell in everyday driving.

RHW - Want to guess where they came from? The Great White North?

Ron, If I were guessing, I'd guess Cali, because they get all the good cars n stuff. Or do you know more than I do about this particular set?

Yes, I have the exact same part number. I once tried to order a spare wheel from Mercedes using that number, but that number is the same number for a stock 15" 190E (W201) wheel, so I got the wrong wheel from Mercedes. Note the 201 in the part number, so maybe it was originally for the 190E as RHW suggested.

yeah. i think your right about the part # indicating w201. would still like to know the exact car they came from for reference.
regarding the post about the 16X8 mono's from canada. i pm'd the seller but got no response. you guys have any luck?
about where mine came from. found them on the local craigs list. seller said he'd had them for years. only way i'll sell them is if i don't like the way they work after installation.
i wanted the monobloc look and these fit the bill to a "T" how they work remains to be seen. i also have a set of 17X8in mono I's et28 in case the 16's don't get the job done. regards, michael

Ah, Thanks Ron.

And congrats Mike. How did you transact? Nice deal you got there!!

I couldn't bring myself to gamble - heck, even the AMg in the title made me think 2x...spelling errors are common with scammers.

So, Our great white north seller is not vindicated. And my Cali guess looks right.

Mike, the 17x8 et28s will fit if you roll your fenders and use spacers. And they will look better than the 16s.

But as I told Ken before I even owned a set - it just seems these 16s are a perfect choice, a bit of a homage back to the original cars, easy fitment, good ride, great look.

I doubt you will part with them, but can't hurt to ask.

i try to go see items before purchase. if that can't be done, i proceed with extreme caution. turns out they were the real deal so i bought 'em. need an amg fender spacer kit to mount the 17x8in et28 mono I's in case the 16's don't work to my satisfaction. anyone? regards, michael

p.s. nothing wrong with a little homage )

I think that RHW called first dibs, but if he is not interested, I would be interested in the 16s. I think those 17s are going to be a tight fit and probably too wide up front with a ET28. You could roll and flare the fenders, but even that might not be enough.

don't know if i'll use the 17's. i think the 16's will work fine. in the event i want to use the 17's i'll need the fender spacer kit from amg. anyone who can source one for me, please post or pm. if i don't use the 17's i'll have the fender kit to sell with the wheels. regards, michael
