ovp relay?

Hey guys, so about a month ago i made a thread about stereo cutting out light going dim and srs light coming on. I ended up replacing the alternator and battery and it ran alot better, but i still have a prob. I cant have my headlights on and heat on at the same time or it makes all the lights very dim. I did a voltage test at idle with no loads and it checked out good there but as soon as i turn the heat and lights on its drops to like 12.1v. I was reading that the ovp relay could cause loss of power, and cut power when it shouldn't, also could it cause the car not to shift into 4th, cause on the freeway going 60mph its revving at about 3500rpms and wont shift up any help is very appricated thanks justin

300E a couple 1994 w124wagon E320 Wagon/,1971MGB Track/Rally, MG Midget Autocross ,2000 E320 wagon.
Check the fuse on the ovp.

If it is the old single fuse unit update it to the dual fuse unit.Don't think it is related to your voltage drop though.
Plenty of stuff on ovp on www.peachparts.com

update update update so went to the shop today on my day of pulled the ovp relay looked at the pins on the bottom of it and it looked like the base of one of the pins was black and dark so i pulled the relay apart and found that two of the soter points were alot darker then the rest, looked in out spare parts of relays and such and found two ovp relays looked at the pins on both and they all looked brand new no black marks, throw the first on in started her up turned on both light and heater. Lights didnt dim at all. drover it home seem to run a wee bit better when i get to work tomorrow gonna see if while runnin and headlight and heat on the it chargin the system

Sounds like the voltage regulator to me... If you still have problems it would be a good bet to replace it. A new one runs about $15

I started to have similar problems about 2 weeks ago and did my research. New voltage regulator solved it. It is held on with just two small bolts on the back of the alternator, I've seen philips or torx heads in there, and its a little tricky to fit the new one in properly. Easy fix though

Hope you get it worked out!
