Part It Out or Sell the W124 Complete/As-Is?
#28
Dammit.
I want your car but
a I don't have the scratch to buy it
b I don't have somewhere to keep it.
I would buy a 5 liter M119 and transmission, and maybe stick a 230E badge on the rear. No scratch for that either right now, although I could probably swing the badge...
Good luck with the sale

If you want to talk numbers - Talk to me personally. I haven't decided on price to post openly everywhere. KBB states $3,500-$4,000 in Fair condition. I know I won't get much from the mods, but do the math. Car will come with spare parts unless users here want to buy them individually.

what's that wet spot on the ground under the engine, just a water puddle?
one of my friends is interested, but he's planning on driving it back across the country, so he wants to make sure it's solid...

Obviously KBB fair condition quotes would not take that into consideration as these are not minor repairs or Chris would have undertaken them himself before sale. They should definitely be reflected in any asking price.

300EVO, obviously the problems will be reflected in the asking price.
Zeddy, Mechanically, it has a blown head gasket - So it's not running. I had the transmission serviced (Flushed, Replaced the Filter, etc, along with new rear brake rotors, pads, plugs, wires, cap & rotor and more) about two weeks before the head gasket went bad. The car has over 150K miles, Obviously, It'll need a transmission rebuilt as a maintenance. I was going to fix all of this and keep the car on the side, but realistically I decided to move on to newer and better things. haha Also, the wet spot is has been there and isn't related to my car. This car is intended for a parts car or a true modder - FYI. lol

Hello,
I am intersted and was there the day HMS was putting the 3 piece spoiler on for you.
Also, does this have the c32 brakes installed? You ended up buying them from a classmate that was going to sell them to me for my old CLK
With some gray area left open on the transmission, I would say that I can trully appreciate all of the mods and cash/time you have sunk into this car. It really is in very nice shape. However, with consideration of transmission costs in the near future, age and mileage (will need suspension and rubber replacements all around very soon to maintain as a daily driver) and the head gasket repairs please keep in mind this is not intended to insult you.
I would pick up and haul on my car trailer as I have to commute back to Phoenix, AZ and would offer you $1,500 cash as-is.
If you're intersted in unloading it, let me know.
Forgot to mention that with the offer you are welcome to pull the entire stereo system as I am sure you would like to move that into another car. The offer was simply for the complete car and cosmetic mods, and such, not to much the in-car-electronics. However, if you wanted to leave it, I could possibly add in some coin for the hassle it would save of pulling it all.
Thanks!

To be honest the AMG bodykit is worth $1000 alone...I do see its cracked at the front, but still. I've seen Gen II bumpers by themselves go for $800.
Let alone the wheels.
$1500 is quite a lowball offer IMO.
I'd love to take it off your hands and fix the tranny myself...but 2 124's are enough for me...
I think you should part out the wheels and bodykit then sell the car for like $800. You'd get a much better deal.

proven-guilty, I don't remember meeting you? Sorry. Unless you were the two dudes who drove from AZ just for the meet.
Yup, I've had an bodyshop estimate the repairs for the front bumper and it's really affordable.
Can't really make money back on mods I guess. lol I'd rather keep the car then let it go for $1,500. I'm not hurting for money nor am I looking to make money or in a rush. I'm fine with keeping the car and letting it collect dust.

You would be better off parting it out, and I know you probably have well over $7k in simply mods, but its just the value for the daily driver with what I would have to put into it. To me its a gamble, and to you its not rational, but it never hurts to make the offer.
My name is Chris, I was one of the tall white boys from San Diego, had the white W202 and Black W208. Was there to talk to Serge about CL55 drive train swap that day, and Ed was installing the 3-piece spoiler on your car. Brought (one of the many) cases of beers and hung out for a couple hours.
I moved out to Phoenix in late 2008, so its been a while. I don't expect everyone to remember me.

I know its a nice car, he knows its a nice car, you know its a nice car. Doesn't change the fact it won't go anywhere without several thousand dollars invested, or being pulled behind another vehicle.

So... You're NOT parting it out?
I hope it goes quickly to someone who appreciates the mods.
My previous MB sat in the driveway when I started driving my Mustang, and I was surprised how rapidly it deteriorated. The vandalism and even the unintentional damage to the paint was a heartbreaker.
That's not to mention condensation, corrosion, a flat tire etc etc. And still had to insure it!
Ended up selling cheap to save my marriage. Lol
let us know if you change your mind.
Good luck on the sale. :-)

Chris, I have a recently wrecked 95 E300D with a strong motor and tranny, would really like to speak to you about using your car for a swap. Before you dreamers PM anymore craziness about dropping a 119 motor in there lets be honest, most of you don't have the resources to make that happen. ALthough the thought of a diesel in your car might raise your eyebrow a bit the 606 is a very cool motor, I'd love to cruise down the road in your car while getting 34 mpg's with the 606 in there. I'm here in the Riverside area and have owned multiple W124's and W201's including the first NA 1986 2.3-16V so I know and really enjoy these cars - your car will not be butchered. I have the wrecked E300 in my garage as I was going to part it out - I think this would be an interesting swap bro. I'll pm my contact info.

I don't know why no one's scooping this car up the way it is. Even at $3500 it's a steel.
When Chris was building this, everyone was rubbing on out over the parts going into it, and you know it was a happy ending when it was done and pics were posted. Look at the parts list, thats what everyone is trying to put on their cars.
$3500 + headgasket ($1500?) + used tranny ($1000). So for $5000-$6000 you've got a car that is turning heads, and the envy of the w124 crowd.
Find a C43 or C/E55 drivetrain and look out.
Chris if your car was in Toronto, you would have your cash, and the car would be on my trailer!
