OK guys...I found the amplifier thanks to Carbooks.
Now Most of the speakers don't appear to work, but when I turn on the car, and fire up the stereo and disconnect the harness to the amplifier, I can still hear the front right speaker (tweeter?)... The left channel is not operational. Are the front speakers tied to the headunit? Trying to figure out whether or not to replace the head and amp or other. The stereo is very sick right now...

ya that is strange. On these older cars its hard to figure out what other people could have done to make the stereo work. But in my opinion it would probably be easier to run new wires to all your speakers and put an aftermarket HU in.

The amp only powers the subs in the doors. The head unit powers the front and rear speakers. Sounds like you have some bad speakers.....

I think the head unit is bad then...It does some other really goofy stuff. I am going to replace it then.
Can I swap the head unit out with an aftermarket unit and not worry about goofy signaling from the H/U to the Amp?
ALso, is there a good place to find an OEM unit if I decide to just drop an OEM in?

You could send yours in for repair to : http://www.beckerautosound.com/
or find an Ebay one, or li swapped a stock one form a junk yard.
If you want OEM feel, but udated CD Becker makes a replacement single CD one also.
Good luck

Thanks for the line on the place in Jersey...I emailed them...I wonder what a repair costs on one of these...I haven't had any luck finding a head unit on ebay, but did go ahead and get the tools to yank the H/U out for whatever eventually may come.

The amplifier input is derived from the front speakers outputs off of the head unit. The amp uses this high-level input and not a low-level rca type input.
I have a schematic, I just need to find it and I'll repost it in high res.

SPDIESEL you might check for the speakers or all of tham you have hooked up.Reason for becouse if even one speaker burn, amplifier goes into protection mode and disconnects. If that was hapening for long time it might burn, than there is no other option than replace radio and wiring, couse there is no use of old wiring .Wish you like your car enough.Good luck.

to SPDIESEL. Easyest way to check speakers is to unhook the wires from tham, and than apply some low voltage on it with one of the aa batteries. If it is good you will hear some cracking noise every time you touch another contact.Good luck.
I decided to live with it until I can pull everything and start from scratch.
Would love to see the schematic as it would save time trying to determine what wires do what. Thanks-
Fader not tumbler
124 forlife, since you've piped in on two threads about radios, what you are calling "tumbler" the rest of the world calls "fader". Thought you should know for future reference

i put in a new head unit and speakers, but kept all the speaker wiring stock.
i didn't have a wiring diagram or a voltmemter so it was pretty tedious trying to bypass the amp, but it was definitely doable with a little patience

They quoted me $185 to refurbish the unit. My speakers randomly turn on and off and the radio volume is all over the place (a common issue with these units). Reminds me of a old Grateful Dead show

I decided to live with it until I can pull everything and start from scratch.Ah, I'v got a whole different answer for you now... Just go down to Radio Shack and get a can of Tv/Control Cleaner & Lube for $10.99.

Remove fuse to radio, remove volume knob and spray this in the hole, replace knob and move it left and right both fast and slow for about 2 minutes. Let evaporate for 10 minutes and replace knob and then the fuse.
You should be good as new!

I don't believe i have a fader (at least not that I can find)...
THe replacement H/U that I got off of ebay is in much better shape , but 3 out of 4 channels are still down. I am thinking of replacing the speakers...Does anyone have a size guide?
Again, I have a 1994 E320 Wagon.
PS, I also think I found the CD Changer hookup in the trunk...Pretty cool.

E320 wagon needs 120mm front dash mount and 100mm for rear door.
Only drop in replacements are Rainbow IQ series made in Germany. About $320 for the set of four speakers. OR pick up some clean oem from the junk yard for much, much less.
Seems like you only need one speaker, I'd grab a clean oem and smile
Did you try cleaning the volume/power knob on your old deck? If you do and it works like it should sell it to cover some of the cost of the Rainbows.
