What would this have been?

The fun of rehabilitating an older car - finding things that are not original. Or was it original?

While poking around the fuse box area, I found a wire with the end terminated with electric tape. and a second wire (green).

The black wire also connected to the positive battery terminal (post).

Then the black wire and the green wire are fished through the firewall, and behind the glove box. It ended with a white connector - then a light diode - what could this have been?

Thanks

My car has an odd connector under the hood too. I have a long cord with a switch on the end that plugs into it. Apparently i can use it to hotwire the car if something happens to the regular ignition switch. I'll take a pic later today.

Pic # 5 looks like an infra red receiver for an audio system remote control.
Perhaps the "white connector" was to a cd player?
The black and green wires are power and ground, not matching Merc color code and not in a wrapped harness.
Definitley something the previous owner installed...

Not stock...a remote starter switch, typically just wired temporarily so one person working alone doesn't have to get into the car to start it while they are working in the engine bay...

Definitely something the previous owner installed...
Well you said it, and I agreed - It Ain't original. It's Outa Here. It did interest me that for a custom effort - some one spent some time getting the wire under the wiper unit.

As Jackie Gleason would say ...
"To the moon Alice, To the moon"

BTW - now maybe the mysterious short I've had that I could not find will 'disappear'.

Wire disconnected - but short remains

My first pass was to find stray wires.

Found one, removed it - but the short circuit remains

Now on to the multimeter (voltmeter) and see is any circuit is 'out of line' or specs.
