Refinishing my Monoblock lips

Refinishing my Monoblock lips
I was going to take it somewhere to get refinished...but then I thought wait a minute let's add yet ANOTHER project to do myself LOL
You can see in the 1st pic the ring around the base of the face that it has no clearcoat there so taping around wasn't too bad because you don't have to be 100% accurate. As long as the actual face is covered you are good
I need to buy some 1600 + 2000 grit sandpaper so once I sand out the actual curb damage I can get it back to the same finish. Going to go: 400->600->1200->1600->2000
Jasco paint stripper took it off in 15mins flat! It just wiped off!
You can see the clearcoat peeling from the curb damage:
Stripped:
What do you guys think? It looks much more "shiny" in person...should show up better when I contrast it with the rest of the wheel. I'll take more pics later.

Holy crap it came out better than I was expecting for a 1st timer!
I just did a little section to get a hint of the final product...And I LIKE
First I hit it with 220 grit to get rid of the curb damage (no pics sorry...but you get the idea)

Im thinkin they've been around since early 90's...Maybe even late 80's
What's the answer?
Wasn't there an AMG Monoblock thread on here?

I've got 3 sets of staggered monoblocks.
The wheels on my wagon were taken off my CLK55 when I put 18s on the AMG. The 3rd set is in 17 for track use, which were found on eBay. The lips on the track set need refinishing....I may try this process with those

I've got the rest of the lip all perfect, but once I removed the tape there is a small buildup or dried clearcoat+stripper product...It's a little difficult since the groove between the face of the wheel and the lip is small.
So learn from my minor setback and make sure you get the best quality tape you can and make sure it sits 100% flush. When I do my next wheel I won't make the same mistake. It's fixable, but going to take a little more elbow work to get it out. I don't want to use more stripper because it is so close to the face. Don't want any seeping.
Soon as I get it all off, I'll take pics of the final product

Finished up 2/4.
The bad first attempt with the tape that seeped the paint stripper through (This is beyond my capability to fix..so I may send it off. Who cares though I saved a ton of $$ and nailed it the second time!!)
After changing to Al tape....Oh yes Nailed it!
Looks such a huge difference!
Going to get the tires mounted and will take some pictures of the car's new wheels and stance. Can't wait!

I know I was kinda thinking maybe repainting the center a charcoal color?
Once I get some pictures I can get someone to photochop them charcoal so I can see how it looks.
Just waiting for pepboys to mount em then going to pick them back up. No other places open on Sunday....so hope they don't ding 'em.

None of my curbrash was too deep. Well one or two spots, but I left them alone. Not worth the effort because then you'd have to repaint it. Also I don't believe you bondo...I think you have to weld a spot then sand it down.
I just sanded off the chips. As long as you keep moving around the curvature of the wheel going in the same direction, you won't end up with any flat spots. It won't even look like you sanded it at all.
