E220 Worklog/Advice

Hi everyone, just thought i would share my plan and get advice from those willing to give it. I have been working and saving up to do up the W124 E220 Cabriolet for a good while now, and am pleased to say i now have the funds to complete.

So far i have a chrome exhaust system, remote start alarm system, have my suspension kit ready for instalation (Bilstein B6 shocks and H&R cup springs -- effectively the Bilstein B12 kit), i have also got new wings, and i will be ordering the Wald kit in the next few days, by tuesday.

The car has a bit of rust on it and i have been quoted for its repair and respray; work will start as soon as i get the kit.

I also got the engine looked at and got all the kinks worked out, and its running beautfully now.

I have spent a fair bit on the car over the past few years and it holds alot of sentimental value, and i dont want to ruin it; so any advise is more than welcome.

Will post pics soon of the progress, but first i am in need of advise about what i need to do along with the shocks and springs, should i change any bushes or anything else in the suspension when i get this work carried out?

Thanks in advance for any advise.

Check tie rods for wear. If the rubber has broken down so you can see the joints, then they need to be replaced. Same goes with the balljoint on the lower control arm.

Its been a long time since i have posted on here, but thought i give a quick update. Since my last post, had a new radiator, head gasket, exhaust manifold, put in.

I have received my body kit but have ran out of funds due to other costs, so i havent got it put on yet, and it just sits in my garage teasing me everyday.

work done to the car, i have installed a mki9200 parrot handsfree kit, so have ipod, bluetooth, usb, phonoo, etc.... audio input into my radio.( kept original one my dad put in several years ago because it has a cassette player, and looks nice.) I put on chrome MB sills, looked at the original alarm and i believe the reason why it doesnt work is because of some cut wires, and because the siren was tampered with when they tried to steal it. So if anybody has a siren for this, i would love to get it off you. do have a product number, will post it when i get a chance.

furthermore i have installed the suspension kit, car riding alot lower now, although more so at the rear. I changed the brake pads and disks all round, and painted the callipers black, but due to the alloys, not much of the calliper is seen. but i notice it.

I also added window closure and boot opening modules to the alarm. fixed the aerial to the radio, run the wires, i.e. power and audio wires to the rear of the car for the amps i will have for the jenhert system when/if i do.

i have installed reversing parking sensors, the hiding version, parking dynamics, i think they called. changed all interior bulbs, centre console, instument panel etc... fixed a few broken plastics, and springs for the seat belt retentions.

i know there is a few things i have missed out. Looking to get the car off the road end of this month, and then into the shop for spraying by next year summer. and then year after the jenhert audio system.

Its been two years since i last posted and true to my word the car now has its jehnert system installed and has been resprayed, but i changed the body and now have put on the wald kit. It now looks the part but doesnt have to power to back it up, I have just purchased a e320, this i will use as a donor car and transfer the engine/wiring/etc... This will start this weekend/next weekend, but i will only have around 5-10 hours a week to work on them and i have limited space to work with.

I will post pics of the whole thing as and when.
