Looking for a W124 Wood Steering Wheel

Black Color, with Burlwood. Wood must not be cracked. Let me know if you have one. Steering wheel has to be from a car that is before 1993 because the wiring is different.

92-93 used the same contact ring, no difference in these years. 86-91 used difference wheel/airbag/contact ring, but you can upgrade those wheels with later model wheels (92-99) very easily.

How can I upgrade to 92-99?

I had a nice burlwood steering wheel from 1996 E320 and tried putting it on my 300ce, it did not work at all, my mechanic said he tried everything but it did not work, even he tried switching the clockspring. He said something that positive and negative are in different places.

A 1996 wheel/airbag will fit a 1993 model by installing the clockspring from your 1993 steering wheel. I don't know what your mechanic tried, but chances are he has never done a swap like this before.

Visit my site at www.2phast.com/500e and go under the interior section. I detail in great length the installation of a 1999 E55 steering wheel on my 1993 500e.

Doubt it, last year for the W124 was 1995, unless you live in India or one of those few countries where the W124 was carried over for a extra year.

Oh, really no difference between a 95 or a 96 wheel. The clock spring design changed in 1994, so from 94 to 99, the wheels were more or less the same.

They were still making Cabs in 1997 and selling them in Europe, I have a 1996. I think it was only in North America that never got them beyond 1995 - pity because I dont think you got the real nice wood leather wheels as standard. That is why I asked, in 1996 they were pretty much standard on the Cab.

I never seen that kind of cover, to me that cover doesn't look that good.

He told me he tried doing it, he tried switching the clocksprings, but the horn did not work. Do you think the the 500E clockspring setup is maybe different than a 93 300ce?

No, the horn contact rings used on all Mercedes during the 92-93 model year are the same (this item is really not a clock spring). Remember, were talking about the item mounted to the rear of the steering wheel, no need to touch anything on the steering column.

As per my site, with the 96 wheel, you need to remove the black plastic filler piece to install the clock spring.

Depending upon the type of airbag you use, you may need to do some interior wiring (most notable with the SLK/CLK type airbags that have two horn buttons). The regular airbags (like your 93 has) does not need any additional wiring.

So on the 96 wheel, this plastic ring needs to be removed.

The horn contact ring assembly can now be pressure fit into the wheel

This is what the 92-93 clockspring looks like installed on a 94+ steering wheel. The 94+ wheel has an extra hole in it, this is not used when you install the 92-93 contact ring. Also notice the wires, there are two, these complete the horn circuit and are connected to either side of you horn/airbag assembly. Your wheel would look a bit different inside then this picture though. Both of these wires need to be hooked up to complete the horn circuit, otherwise your horn would not work. This is most likely where your mechanic had problems.
