Not happy with W124 drivers seat! Need input

The driver’s seat in my 92 400e is just not working for me. I’ve had the pad and the seat spring replaced and I still can’t get comfortable. The seat feels as if it is ever so slightly sagging to the left. It’s subtle but after a short time in the seat, my left leg starts to hurt (upper leg where the hamstring tendons are). My upholstery guy swears that the mechanical parts are in correct alignment. Yesterday he built up the left side of the seat with extra padding. This helps a bit but I’m still feeling discomfort. I do not feel any of this type of discomfort in my wife’s 92 Q45 that has 103K with the original seat padding and springs. The Q does have a significantly longer seat cushion and I’m wondering if that might be part of the problem. The seat cushion in the W124 feels really short to me, and I’m a short person!

I’ve priced out Recaro seats but the fact that they cost so much ($1200 in leather + 180 for armrest) and lack OEM appearance and power controls makes me hesitant to go this route.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I AGREE

I totally agree with you. Same uncomfortable feeling with my 94 E420. I can tell you I can feel everything spring moving up and down with the car. I test drove the new C-Class and they apparently changed the seat design. There are some cracks on the leather of my front seats and I'm also looking into different options. For the same year models, I think BMWs still have better seats and interior technology although I love the MBZ low RPM torgue.

interchanging for 107 seats

I have two 107 body types, a 1977 450slc and a 1981 380sl. In both the seats are past being called seats in a way I have not seen other car seats fall apart. So I am thinking to switch to some other seat, preferably something out of a newer mercedes. Does anyone know what other seats might fit the older 107 sl models. Will the c230 or perhaps the 600 or compressor? yes I know the car will not be "original" but that isn't what concerns me. I just want a couple of high quality comfortable and durable front seats.

W124's
I've been wondering if newer model seats from Mercedes will fit our W124's. If so, I would totally invest in some. Perhaps some AMG. Imagine how sick and nice that would be.

Unhappy

my previous mercedes i own had the same problem with driver sit - sit unstable on the left side and when I used to turn hard to the left I slided all the way to the way side and almost hit the window with my ! head ! many times... well i went to many body shops and paid ammounts of dollars BUT sit never remain stable at the middle ...
I'm sure someone out there got golden hands could fix it but I just could not find right person so far... BECAUSE i know how important is it to sit properly ...well try to look for whole sit assembly at some junk yards or get custom sport edition sit !
Good luck bro !

300TE / 300E / 300CE
I was fortunate to find some electric Recaro Classics OEM for 300E. They were in an '85 300E European grey market import. Some AMG's had them with contrasting edge piping.

I can't tell you how they feel in the car because I haven't installed them yet. They are tan and my car's interior is grey. I'm debating whether to reupholster them or dye.

i'm 6ft, no problems here.

only the seats could be better bolstered on the sides so my torso doesn't fly around when i perform my nascar stunts.

You would like a 500E seat in your 400E .....there are plenty of them in the junkyards, well, a few at least I know. And it would match nicely I would think and plug right in to your existing power function control.

Try calling the dismantlers in Hemmings and in the Star Magazine first.
