(89 300ce) Why did 80% of my dashboard gauges stopped working?

My tachometer, gas, temp and oil pressure gauges all stopped working a couple of days ago although my speedometer, clock and economy meter are still working. Since the group of gauges went out at the same I figured it had to be a common fuse or relay. I checked all the fuses and they look fine so it must be a relay – right???

If anyone has any experience with this, I could really use the help. Thanks

There are fuses on the back of the cluster itself. They look like little buttons:

The red one does instrument lights, but there may be more that control other cluster functions. Just a thought.

Dash Guages

I had the same problem and after much trial and error I took the cluster out, lifted out thefabric under the cluster and saw two ground posts.
I created two grounds on the cluster, one from each side of the guages and wired them to a ground. All guages worked fine from then on. This is over one year.
Hope this helps, check fuses first as rivcal says.

Good luck

John

The gauge cluster has 3 parts and they all have a common ground that you can trace between them. When the pods are apart from the cluster look for a - mark and the rest is easy. I put one ground wire at each end and my gauges work great.
Let me know how things work out

I had similar problem on my 300D - it was fuse #5 under the hood. Visually fine, but corroded contact. Moved it a little - all good.

Grounds

I had a similiar issue. It was my oil pressure gauge, clock and tach. I hooked up a ground off the back of the cluster near the clock to a nut near the steering column! No problems since!
