300e Engine/Transmission removal ?'s

Hi all. I have removed a few motors on cars before and now I got a 92 300e 4matic (blown motor) that i need to pull out and put in a replacement I have. I also need to get the tranmission out thats in it for B3 problems. (Dosnt go into reverse untill warmed up) I have the owners bible but it dosnt have anything on engine removal.

I guess I have alot of questions but the main one's I have is.

Can the engine/tranny come out as one? Do i need to move the exhaust? How many mounts are there?

Any other tips and tricks that might be helpful?
Is there any documentation for this procedure?

Thank you all for your help. This is by far the most difficult engine i will be removing. and might be back for more help.

Brad

Brad, search this site for W124 factory service manual. The 4matic is more involved than the standard 2 wheel drive.

Side note.. the e class bible best used for descriptions and general information. It is not by any means a substitute or replacement for a factory or aftermarket service/repair manual.

Thanks for your post. I will search for the factory manual.

Really would like to know though if the tranmission and motor can be pulled out as one?

Thanks
Brad

I know but if anyone is searching, yes you can pull as a unit.
Remove radiator and fan shroud. Remove the side radiator shroud and take off the high pressure line from the condenser so it can be snaked out when you tilt the engine and trans with a tilt bar to angle the two units out as one.
Be sure you put a piece of plywood behind the condenser coils and plenty of moving blankets to guard against the moving engine.
Go slowly till you are sure you unhooked everything, seems you always miss a harness wire or 2.
