1992 Mercedes 400E, 237,000 km ( 142,000 miles).

Just replaced the A/C compressor. The entire system has now been replaced – compressor, drier, blower motor regulator, new brushes on blower motor, all the vacumn pods (the rubber rips with age – all are new). Blows cold air.

New upper & lower engine wiring harness last year. Basically, all the weak parts in a 400E have been replaced.

Tires have less than 500 miles. Mags were refinished last year. Did a $700 wheel alignment about 3 years ago. New exhaust, cat converter, oxygen sensor a year ago ($1,000).

Car has needs a new fan belt tensioner. Crossfiring; needs major tuneup (spark plugs, wires, caps, rotors, air & fuel filter). Needs new valve cover gaskets. Steering pump has slow leak; I top it up about once a month.



If you want to drive it, you need about $600 worth of parts + installation.

Priced low to move. If it doesn't sell by October 24th I'll part it out.

Pictures are from a few years ago, the car is not quite in as good shape now. No dents in the bodywork, but the front projector lights need cleaning to remove scratches.

Recent work done:

- new exhaust, catalytic converter, chrome tip, oxygen sensor in Decwember 2008. Passed our local emissions inspection (AirCare).
- Hankook Ventus V12 “Ultra-High Performance” tires, about 500 miles.
- A/C compressor installed in August 2010
- New radiator, fan shroud Summer 2009
- $700 wheel alignment in 2007
- New Hirschmann antenna
- New battery in 2009

Ironically I'm going to be in Vancouver later this month for the first time in about ten years - too bad I'm not in a position to take this one home. A 400e would be a fun project.

Is it driveable as is? I know my sister is looking for a new car... but that is a hell of a drive (like, almost 48hrs of driving).

Funny you mention the B200 Turbo. I was looking on autotrader.ca not long ago for a cheap one so I could make my w124 a garage project and just drive the diesel.

 

I can't remember, it's been a few years. I think the first pair was $180, but they had a design flaw and failed. The newer version was $75 more, I think.
