You're "stiffening" in the sense that the suspension geometry is being maintained as designed.
In essence it keeps things "square"
The strut bar prevents inherent unibody flexing between the two strut towers.
It should enhance your handling, which is why most race setups use both front and rear strut bars.
I'm using a tubular Sparco bar....
The bars for the 124's are getting difficult to find, especially the Weichers bar.

"The purpose of strut bars is to reduce flex that these towers experience during hard cornering. When taking a turn a car's strut tower normally flex, resulting body flex and losing some traction. As a strut tower bar is designed to keep your car's strut tower from flexing, they distribute the pressure applied to one strut tower when taking a turn to both towers instead of just one. This keeps the wheels in position. Keeping the wheels in position helps keep the tires in the desired position on the road, and this will help to improve traction on the turns.
A rear strut tower bar is designed to work like the front bar by tying the two rear strut to work together, increasing the overall chassis stiffness. Rear strut bars minimize under steer due to less chassis flex and improves stability during corner braking.
Strut bars are a must for any upgrade to a wider tire&wheel combination. Addition of suspension upgrades such as sports springs, shocks and low-profile tires adds additional stress to the chassis which result in chassis flex. Strut bars not only reinforce the sub frame and improve chassis stiffness but also make steering quicker and more responsive "

Do you know if this will work with the MeyleHD mounts? If so, I'll probably pick this up and start looking into finding a rear one.

If the Meyle HD mount is the same configuration as the stock mount, you will have no problem.
Not sure if you need to notch the bulkhead for the Weichers bar, I did for the Sparco.
Doubtful you'll find a rear strut bar for a 124 as I don't think one was ever commercially offered...
Front is the more important of the two...

We talked about the condition of your car many times....
You have an emotional attachment, but if you haven't sorted out the engine ( compression ? ), then I agree with finding something else..
Comes down to the reality of economics

BUUUTT this one is already sold so whatever.
Pending sale on the bar to BoostedCayenne.

Now it goes into the un-installed W124 parts pile.....gotta start working on this damn thing......
Glad to hear you got it in good shape. Make sure and throw up some pics when you do get it put on. Oh, and info if you are able to replicate it!
