Getting there
Everyone-
This is a project that I've been helping a young lady friend with. She had a near-fatal accident 2 years ago in a '03 Acura RSX, and was given this '88 300E as a gift during her recovery. It turns out that the car had some deferred maintenance issues, and I've been advising on those. But the more intractable ones, usually electrical, have been my focus.
Recent efforts have been to source a few body pieces, to remedy another person's carelessness. Also, we were given 4 matching studded snow tires recently, and it was decided to put them on her 16" Mille Miglia wheels. We figured that she should enjoy the wheels now given that life is so short and all, and we can always repaint them if corrosion becomes an issue. Check the pics to see what a day's work at detailing produced.
We would appreciate your comments and advice. We're not quite sure whether to keep the car long-term; she's really a Volvo person but certainly appreciates the M-B marque. But the real issues are ongoing maintenance and restoration. She is of very modest means, and this car will need a repaint in the next year, as there is some rust in the edges of things, and we are in Western New York, after all. You know: land of fun-and-sun, and snow-and-salt. Also, we need to find a driver's window motor and climate control unit. The regional yards either don't have them, or they are prohibitively expensive. The relative rarity of these cars in this region, compared to Audi, BMW, Volvo, etc., doesn't make scavenging for parts very easy.
Cheers!
