Transmission Delay Situation

Hey everyone. I bought a 1990 300E about two months ago and previously had an account at Benzworld but didn't like it and so now I have made an account here! Notice how my username combines Merc and Bimmer! Ha. I have a question about the transmission

Recently I have noticed odd behavior creep up. When shifting from Park to Drive the car will hesitate to move for a second to a number of seconds. There does not seem to be any other issue with the transmission. Reverse functions fine, it shifts fine, fluid level is fine, fluid color is normal and does not smell burnt. I have noticed that this issue is getting more pronounced as the weather gets colder.

Can't seem to find any info using the search function. Does anyone have any suggestions so I can be more knowledgeable before I bring it into the transmission shop?

Lazy valve body on the transmission (?)

My 500E takes about a second or two to go into reverse. its not a big deal (to me)

Could be, could be. The transmission seems to function perfectly fine otherwise

I added a bottle of Lucas Transmission repair and it seems to be improving the situation

Might be worth having a look at the transmission filter inside the pan.
Not that expensive for filter and gasket kit but means draining it and filling with some nice clean stuff !
Mine was putrid when I had it done recently.
The filter was full of sludge but I think maybe due to inactivity more than overuse. Didn't have any delay in engaging but I certainly have noticed how much quicker it responds now on changes.
