Looking to buy this 1991 300CE AMG
Here is the ad:
"This a rare chance to secure yourself one of the very rare examples of the AMG version of Mercedes-Benz's classic 300CE coupe. This example is number 11 of a reported 25 made. These coupes were only made in LHD format. We have had the chassis number confirmed by AMG that it is the real thing.
These highly modified versions of the 300CE were made well before AMG was brought out by Mercedes-Benz but still reflect the same high level of excellence that has been achieved with the current AMG products that you can now purchase from a Benz dealer.
The engine is a specially modified version of the M104 6 cylinder 24 valve engine. Amongst the modifications, it has been bored to 3.4lts and has custom camshafts and pistons. The engine produces 200kw of power at 6500prm.
Interior has all the normal comforts you would expect from Mercedes-Benz. Electric windows, Sunroof, Climate control, Drivers air bag, etc. Trim is dark grey cloth, with Zebrano timber trim and black carpet. All in perfect condition. "
Less than 50,000 KILOMETERS!
Asking around $ 18K
Sounds like a collector's item.
Is it worth it?

Hows the service history? This is vital.
Check for oil leaks as a head job is common and I suspect the gaskets are different for the 3.4 litre.
The only other thing I noticed is that the fans are different to the standard 24V 3litre and the horns have been moved.
I tried posting a picture of the standard engine (from mine) but this site doesn't allow the image size.
Follow this link for the standard set up
Good luck and if the paperwork checks out buy it. It won;t depreciate much more for a long time.

If you are in the U.S., it may prove difficult to import.
Good luck.
Let us know how it turns out.
If they are, why? AMG seats are leather arn;t they? and they are more shapped I'm sure. Have the seats been changed?

Now some cars (such as the 500E) were never sold with right hand steering as it was too hard to convert. So the E500's we got in the UK were left hand drive (and therefore expensive to insure).
However, the AMG 340 is not one of them. It was sold here in right hand drive as the engine is the same externally as the 3 litre 24 valve.
So it would have been available in Australia also as a right hand drive.
Question is, why is there a left hand drive car in Australia. Where did it come from before? and how did it pass Australian import laws? Greg from Aus will probably know more on this subject but its all a bit odd.
The Germans aren't so worried about leather either.
But how will it ppass your emissions tests state side?

Update: The seller is gathering service records from Germany. It was owned by a German diplomat who was assigned there-had to have his Gov't issued car with him!
We'll see.

Unfortunately, left-hand drive cars cannot be registered for use on Australian roads until they are 30 years old (I think) otherwise it would have been snapped up by now (I would even be interested!). As to its authenticity, I am not an expert on AMG vehicles so I cannot comment. More information is available on the owner's business website:
http://www.mbspares.com.au/
and more specifically about the car at:

and:

Apart from this, I don't know much more about it.

Same car in a different context?!?!?
If is was from Aussie it should be a RHD, right??
The fan assembly seems okay for the year '90 and '91. I have one (not AMG) it has the same assembly and has never been rebuilt or changed.
Is that car still for sale? I remember seeing that CE on the internet nearly two years ago.....same pix too....from Aussie, right?
If you are in the U.S., it may prove difficult to import.
Good luck.
