AMG Kitted Cabriolet

I can't verify this is true, but this is listed as a factory AMG kitted cabriolet in Canada. In the least it's a good photo gallery for reference. Looks hot in that dark grey color.

I like it.

For starters the alloys are staggered,124s never left factory like that
As for the kit it should have the chrome strips on the panels color coded

Just a student, flame away if you will.

In my eyes I see the chrome strips on the cladding are indeed color coded. And, all apologies, where do you reference non staggered wheels for all factory 124s from?

Cheers,
Bob

Sorry Bob but it looks as it has chrome

It might just be me needing some sleep though 2am down here LOL

The car ^ has staggered alloys,7.5 front and 8.5 rear which was never an option on 124s

PS:No need to apologies

One give away on initial authenticity is the badging...

No pre-merger AMG was badged "///AMG"......pre-merger badge was only "AMG"....

The E36 DID in fact exist in 1993 so the kit COULD be factory. Also, the E36 AMG body kit (2nd Gen) always had ///AMG, never "AMG".

Just sayin...

As far as I`m aware the 93 cars fitted with AMG kit from new came with genI rear bumper.I always stand to be corrected but that`s my info

Also as my coment ^ is it just me that sees chrome in the claddings??

Dash

I solely noted the difference between "pre merger" and North American 1994 and up cars...
They were no longer "bespoke"...

The "///AMG" builds unless they were the C36, E36, E60, etc....were rarely performance, more cosmetic kitted cars...

The new logo was in use starting in 1991. The old logo was phased out but existing stock of parts labeled with the old design were inter-mixed with the new design. (e.g. 1992 3.4l AMG had new style AMG exterior emblems but the airbox still carried the old AMG logo)

Rik

Thanks !

Time line confirms that badge was changed with the signing of a contract of co-operation between Daimler Benz AG and AMG in 1990....which led to the joint development of the C36 introduced in 1993.

Most Merc dealers were now able to add the kits to new delivery vehicles whereas prior it was only done by one of the few global AMG franchises.

At this point, for the most part, the truely bespoke "ala-carte" AMG builds began to be a thing of the past !!!

Gent's this is likely a JDM car. It has the side markers on the fenders, very low km's. The side skirts are replica - no cutouts for the jack, it has the big gps mount on the dash. And, it's in BC.
Nice car. Makes me want one again.
