EURO Headlamps

Hello,

I bought a pair of the Euro style headlamps for my 1992 300E. Well i had then realized that the car has only 4 female power connects. I was then informed that i had to buy the plastic casing that fits the standard 6 pin EURO connect. So, I go to the dealership and paysomething like 15 dolllars for a couple pieces of plastic that wouldnt cost more than a nickle.. Anyways, i rewire the car with the new plastic adapters i bought, which have space for 6 connectors, however the car headlamp only has four. I hooked them up and installed sylvania 100w bulbs. Well i turned them on and they were very dim. I would have trouble lichting up my garage with such dim lights. What do I need/ how do I make the headlights brighter, at least bright enough to drive without getting a ticket?

Until I get some help, no night driving for me

Thanks!

Euro headlight brightness

When one buys Euro headlights they usually come with the pin adaptors and instructions. Their brightness even with 55watt bulbs is the result of an especially well designed reflector. If the lights are not bright with 100 watt bulbs the wires are incorrect. If their were previous headlight wipers it is very important that the plugs be taped and identified as they are identical. Correct wiring for Euros: while looking at the front of the adaptor, starting at top left, Brown #2, below-White#4, below, gray#6, top right-#1 vacant, below-#3 for "city light", bottom -yellow#5. They need to be focused correctly at a 20 ft. distance after marking correctly on a flat wall.

Thanks, it looks better now but i have to wait until darkness falls to see how well they work on the road. One question I had was the #3 "city driving". I only have 4 pins that were standard for the stock headlight fixture. THose were the brown, white, gray and yellow that were taken up by the 2, 4, 5, 6 spaces in the euro style plug.
Thanks a million,

A. N.

Here are the part numbers for the sockets that you need for Euro lights:

qty (2) - 006 545 80 28 - six-pin electrical connector, socket
qty (2) - 009 545 30 28 - six-pin electrical connector, cover

I already purchased the six pin connector and cover. I tested the lights out after the rewiring, everything looked good. However, when i hit the highbeams, the left lights turns off completly and the right one gets brighter. Anybody know anything about why this is occuring and how to fix it?

Second question was for the wiring order. What wire is the "city driving" that goes into the #3 slot?
Thanks!

The City Driving light is a small 5W light found in most but not all of the Euro headlamps. If memory serves me correctly, in Europe it comes on instead of (along with?) the parking lights that we use. So you could run another wire spliced to the parking lights in the front turnsignals to this post. It really makes for a neat effect to have these on when the sun is setting and you don't need headlights yet.

Sounds like you have the left high beam connection miswired. To check it you can use a voltmeter and the brown pin as your ground, look for 12V+ on one of the pins while the high beam is on (sorry if that is obvious). Also, this diagram may help, if anyone sees an error please let me know and I will correct it.
