Sandy claims a Cabriolet
Just got word that while parents are okay, the silver Cab I gave step dad took salt-water to about mid-door.
I am crushed, after refurbing this car in 2007-2008, it has needed nothing but oil and gas, as stepdad has run 3k miles per season at the beach.
If totalled, as I expect, the motor + more are likely worth consideration, but it is 300 miles away.
Ed..will call you if they offer a salvage number that seems worth considering.
Family is fine, cars are just toys. But that silver/black/black Cab will be missed.

Salvage future of the car.
Man I hate the fact that the car got soaked, but wanted to send out a note to anyone who is going to part this car out afterward. I have a lot of interest in a few interior parts if they go up for sale.
I want you all to know I was hesitant to ask because I feel like a vulture flying in on someones misfortune but my intentions are not that at all. I just cannot source the fabric retention bow for a 300 cabrio and would love to get one for my cab and do some experimentation on my broken one to see if it can be reproduced for those of us who need it replaced.
Best of luck and I hope you can find another one in the future.

Sad to see it happen Rich. I know how obsessive you are with the care and maintenance of your fleet.
Hopefully that was the extent of the damages you've incurred, and going forward, I know you'll find another project to fill the void.

Sad to here about the loss of another Cabriolet, but I'm glad everyone is okay. Cars can be replaced, but people cannot.

Any news on this car getting parted out?
I think on the "other board" it was mentioned.
I'd really like to get my hands on that retaining bow.
Cheers,
Bob

Nice that I didnt see venomous post questioning why the car owner lived in a hurricane zone. I am still someonwhat bitter for the comments I received when I posted about losing my MB's in Louisiana by living in a location that never had hurricane flooding in its 200+yr existence. I have visited benzworld less since.
Also, personal safety much more important.

One cannot determine the effects of Mother Nature on our lives...
Damage to life and property can be seen daily in areas that never see a hurricane...be it from tornado, forest fire, rain induced mud slides or heavy hail storm.
Oddly enough I live about ten miles north of where Rich's cab had flood damage...the back of my house is thirty five feet from a bulkheaded dock...
Water rose to within a few feet from the house but zero damage...
A bit north in a more protected area far from water, there was a wind shear that destroyed four homes...
Life is what it is with risk at times where we see no risk...we all have to live somewhere.
The odds of having a car totaled due to a collision is far greater then from loss from weather ... !!!
