E420 SLS?

Was SLS an option on the E420? I'm doing an M119 swap into my E320T and would like to keep the SLS... The engine that I have does not have the SLS ports on the p/s pump.

SLS just requires that you use a tandem pump and have a fluid container. It was standard on all w124 500E's, and other MB's that had m119's.

Putting a m119 in a I6 w124 requires a new k-member (chassis part under the engine) and different firewall section. Its been done before but with 5 to 6L m119 motors. So the SLS will be the easy part.

Yeah, that's what I figured... I've got the X-member and firewalls figured out... the wiring is going to be my biggest headache... I need to locate wiring diagrams for both cars.

You can get this on startek.com I think its all free now. However, they use different fuel management systems. M119 w124 cars are all CAN based w/ EZL. You are going to need an aftermarket fuel management solution I think. Your 94' wagon doesn't have anything like what the m119 cars have. Brabus, Vaeth, AMG all built wagons with m119/m120 engines but they were biiiiig money and only a few made.

Also remember the trans bell housings are different. V8 cars had a 4 hole yoke and I6 had 3, v8's also had electronic speedo, so you may need a cluster swap, neutral safety switches are different (v8 is a 6 wire, I6 is 4 wire) which won't matter if you do aftermarket fuel management probably.

Also look into 500E springs. I put an old set of mine on a buddy's wagon and it was very nice. The V8 is only like 80lbs heavier, but its still heavier.

Thanks for all of the tips! My plan is to swap all of the wiring from the front half of an E420 parts car. I want this to be as OEM+ as possible.

That's going to be tricky because the brains are totally different. M119 cars had the battery in the trunk, and 4-5 CAN modules where the battery is in your car is. M119 is also a twin distributor engine, ignition is controlled seperately from fuel by a module called an EZL. They sit on the left inner fender have a few coax wires and a vacuum hose that go to them.

This picture shows the CAN control box in a V8 car.

Not trying to be a PITA but just trying to give you some knowledge so you can try to get a broader picture of the differences.

I would never say PITA. I'll take all of the input given. A little background on me. I've been wrenching since I was 13.. I'll be 41 on Sunday. In a previous career I was a factory VW technician. Specializing in electrical troubleshooting.

From a parts car ((E420) ill be taking the entire harness and swapping out the original wagon harness and peripherals that are different. I have an idea for a battery that I'm researching now.

I value your input. Thank you.
