The Best of Mercedes & AMG
You've changed your concept, you've ignored very reasonable suggestions to just start with an 034 or 036 so you don't have to widen the front firewall. V8's already accomodate a V8 and have the appropriate firewall.
To get bigger brakes you're going to have to upgrade the LCAs and struts on the front. The V8s already have the proper ones. Or you could just spend the money.
Bigger brakes? The V8s already have that. It's a lot easier to upgrade to the Silver Arrow brakes, for instance, than from a 300E. Or you could spend the money.
Reinforce the rear subframe for your projected power levels. The V8s already have that. Or you could spend the money.
5 speed transmission? I think they only ever made 1 manual transmission Hammer. And from the W116 350SE in the seventies is a long stretch for a Mercedes manual transmission Thats the last time Mercedes offered a manual transmission with a V8. Unless you choose a BMW transmission or something. Then you have to think about the driveshafts, the yokes, the bell housings. So you could just spend the money.
Wheels will probably be the easiest thing you are trying to achieve, other than maybe the lights. As long as your do the research first.
Then, after all that you say you want to do this on the cheap?

You do realise you are essentially going against all the collected wisdom of everybody here.
I mean, it's your project and all, so do whatever you want.
The easy way is to start with a 400E/ 500E like everyone has said. But, it's your money, your car, your project. You do you.
I think collectively we've all basically said the same thing; if you want power, start with a V8. You can get a perfectly good 400E for half the price of that Supra engine. Or less.
A 400E with a diff swap to a 2.82 from a 500E would satisfy 90% of what you need.
But like I said, it's your car. Your project. Your vision. Your money.
