400E - Anyone need parts?
What a beautiful ride - but the rust is getting to me. Nothing worse than driving around in a rusty luxury car!!
Interior is black leather in really good condition. Engine is perfect and no reason to suspect anything wrong with the rest of the drive-train.
I'm in Alberta, Canada so freight is a problem; at the moment I am thinking of just selling any parts that don't immobilize the car then donating it to the Kidney Foundation.
Also I have band new brake parts (Master Cylinder, Caliper, etc) that I bought but didn't need.
Anyone want this car? Any ideas? Offers on parts?

Parts
How many Kilometres on it?
How bad is the rust and where is it located on the car....A pillar, sunroof, rear window, doors etc..?
Has the transmission every needed to be replaced.....when?
Does the A/C work?
Lower control arms been replaced?
Would it make it to Toronto....on it's own ?

265,648 Km so just under 165,000 miles. Oil never changes colour good for at least the same again!
Rust is mostly around the edges, you can get an idea from the pic. Not a lot yet but enough that I'm not going to try and patch it. I think you would have to be a body man to plan on keeping it.
Car had 2 owners and was maintained by Dundas Motors (TO) until i bought it in 2005. Everything works except the pressure accumulator has gone so no ASR and I unplugged the pressure pump 'cause it's hard to stop the pressure (3,000 PSI) so ABS is disabled. I believe everything else is original - you could check with the last owner (think I still have his name).
EVERYTHING works including the CD changer!! All elec. motors, etc, etc.
There's a bit of a knock in the suspension going over ruts but no play in the wheels so I'm guessing sway arm links. Drives fine, suspension may be a little soft - I see other vehicles cornering almost as fast as me and I think the 400E should leave them in the dust, but I really don't have anything to base that on! It's not a sports car I suppose! And I think the shocks are original too.
No! it wouldn't make it to Toronto on it's own - SOMEONE WOULD HAVE TO DRIVE IT!! lol
We are going on a 4,000 mile road trip next year and I would be taking this car except that my wife usually drives it and she has a bad hip - waiting for surgery. So I have had to get her something that isn't so low so she can get into it more easily. Toronto would be no problem.

15" Wheels, the interior is pretty much showroom, driver side carpet has a bit of wear (of course) I'll post some picks. Sun is shining on it right now but I think you can still see there are no blems.

At the moment I don't have anything like enough interest to start parting it out myself. Also, when I think about it, I'm not sure what folks in the US expect to pay for used parts. I had to pay $250 for a side mirror from the wrecker and other dealer only parts like the A/C controller ($512) make this car worth a couple of grand even without the drive-train which is in perfect condition. The wheels should be attractive in Canada - the spare has a new Michelin and looks like new. (although I am sure it was rotated in since the car was dealer serviced)
If someone has the garage space to do this I am sure it would be worth while.
That's 2 of you in TO that have shown interest.

Brian,
A friend of my daughter needed a car so I sold it to them for $1,000. Just nice that it's not going to the scrap yard (yet!!)
I still have brake parts, CD's and manuals (Including a Haynes manual), and a spare cassette that they didn't take..

Z,
Road trip was GREAT - 2 months in Oceanside!! Via Vegas & Lake Havasu. Would have been nicer in the Mercedes but we got more stuff in The Tuscon. Also would have used much less gas in the 400E. AND San Diego County is REALLY not the place to be driving a MB with ANY rust on it!! Ah well, Hyundai it is for now. 4WD helps a lot in the winter up here so If (when) I get another MB it will have to have 4Matic. Frankly though, I don't like the new ones - can't understand paying that much money to bang my head getting in and out, and also have to wait till the low profile tire fad is passed!
