This Mercedes-Benz 300E Has Racked Up 800,000 Original Miles
The story of this 300E built on the W124 platform is a carmaker’s dream, given what it says about the durability of a brand.

2002 CLK55 Cabriolet (DEAD: 1989 300E, 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz Convertible)
I have this same exact car ('89 300E, only with black interior and no gold pinstripe). It finally bit the dust at 235,000 miles. It still looked almost as good as this one, but ... looks can be deceiving.
Air conditioner went first, moon roof broke later (luckily in the "closed" position), catalytic converter died so it wouldn't pass Cali smog (couldn't get it registered), two flat tires, and I basically decided that it wasn't worth throwing good money after bad anymore so I let it die in my driveway. Tried to recharge the battery to see if it would start, but ... nothing.
I can't complain, I got over 20 years of good service out of it and it only once left me by the side of the road the whole time!

My first car was one of the first 1986 300 E's. It was a great car. Wish we had kept it longer! I didn't start driving it until it was about 7 years old but I was my my parent's car from new. They picked up two of them at the same time from the factory in Germany.
My brother and I washed and waxed that car every Friday after school. We would clean each wheel with a toothbrush for those little spokes.
