Plase help w/suspension parts
Can anyone list all suspension parts AND bushing that could be replaced that affect/improve ride? I have gone over all of my service history since I have owned the car at 44K and hardly none have been replaced. I have 158k on it now and would like to "freshen up" everthing all at once.
I would like to do this along with new shock/struts (Bilsteins or OEM?) and H&R springs (for lowering.)
Other parts that have been replaced are:
1/04 drag link (tie rod)
7/99 idle arm bushing and steering arm bushing
7/98 rt front wheel bearing was replaced but lft front was repacked only.
That is it.
I am also considering 500E front and rear swaybars.
For tires and wheels, its AMG monoblock II 17X7.5 ET 35 with Michelin 17/ 205/ 17s
But of course, if you experts have sone other suggestions for this set up please throw them in.
Thanks,
Duron

What model W124 do you have?
I could fax you the USA and Euro parts diagrams for your model showing all the susp. parts blown-up. Listing them all would be too long.
You'd have to cut the ends off a 500E bar(s) though. 500Es are a couple inches wider than normal W124s. And why do you feel you need larger bars? Do you track or auto-x it? 'Sportline' stuff would probably do you just fine IMO.
Post a fax # if you got one.

Jim,
My fax is 704 549-9070 and I have a 93 400E. I was told that the 500E bars front and rear would fit and perform great on the 400E. I don't plan on tracking it. I just want better handling in the curves without that "boaty" feeling and just always read on this site and others like it that most go to the 500E bars. But my all means keep me from making a mistake.

Oh sure ...they'll fit fine except for the ends...they'll even fit W201s with the few inches lopped off.
I'm quite sure lowering your car with nice shocks will give you the feel you are looking for first. If not; then I'd say do a bar upgrade last after new links and bushings. 500E bars are bigger b/c the car is so heavy; then again your 400E ain't no lightweight either, hence your stock bars may be just fine for the street. The difference in bar thicknesses is only millimeters.
Let me dig out the parts diagrams...give me a few.
FWIW, I track and auto-x my 500E on the stock bars. I did do the H&Rs and adjustable Konis which took away all the roll a stock 500e has. At 130K miles it was getting sloppy so new bushings and links cured that too.

Ah!!! Exactly what bushings and links did you replace? I will replace the same on mine if you felt it gave you a difference or more of the same feel when the car was new or had less miles on it.
Thanks for all the great info!

Well...just about all rubber I could do myself was replaced within last 2 years...including shock tower bushings, spring pads, front and rear arm rubbers, front drag link, rear sway bar links, control arm rubbers, the other 4 links in the rear, etc...all fresh and tight now.
I send some USA 92' model parts diagrams first.
I think the most expensive part(s) was the rubber front shock tower bushings...like $40 each. I bet you'll be amazed at how cracked, hard and deformed some of them other parts get after 10 years of driving.

You're most welcome Duron ...
Please post an update; if you notice and like the change or not notice any at all.
FWIW...the Euro-EPC parts appear to be mostly the same stuff.

Just to clarify...the part numbers shown are just for diagram reference...your partsman will need the sheet (group) number in the right hand top corner to look up the current MB part numbers; which sometimes change and get superceeded.
Dan...some of the stuff I sent is meant for 400 and 500Es; you should be able to figure it out ... much of the stuff is the same for all W124s though.
Happy wrenching !!
