W124 220E what is this black box or block

Hey guys, just wondering what this black box or block is, it sits behind the abs motor and is located on the left side of the engine bay. Seems like they are part of the ecu harness. Just want to know what these wires do or are for, before i replace them with new ones. The box/block

hi. that black cover protects ground wires. one of the ground wires i know comes from the ignition coil harness as i just renewed mine about a month ago. the ignition coils by the way are sitting underneath the intake manifold. the other ground wire under that box runs into the wiring harness cover opening just behind the power steering fluid reservoir.

Hi guys, thanks for the replies. Ok cool, so those are ground wires, i'm assuming this is what causes my (very slight misfire) at idle and on sudden take offs because i have done every possible thing to fix that small problem. I could be wrong but the wires that come from the harness box are brittle and were not replaced from the guy that did the harness job. I might be doing my ignition coil soon as well, any heads up on what to look out for and on which harness wire connects to which part of the ignition coil? Cheers!

Two groups of wires From harness cover to the block

The brittled wires that i'll be replacing soon
And the other other group of wire that leads to this plug which i have no idea what it is and what it is for.
The plug says 012 545 8828. Anybody know what it's for? Other wire end of this plug comes from the harness box (the one shown above) and the other leads back somewhere to the ecu area. (Car is rhd btw) God this engine bay is a mess with wires going everywhere, would love to tuck them wires somewhere where it can't be seen lol

If I am correct, the red arrow points to the ignition coil ground wire? And the yellow arrow points to the plug.
Correct me if i'm wrong, red arrow points to ignition coil ground? And yellow points out to the mystery plug with 012 545 8828 stamped ontop of it.

Just to clarify things, there seems to be two wires coming out of the harness cover. I have labelled them by drawing coloured arrows cheers!

hi. on that last photo youve put up i think the cloth wrapped wire near your thumb goes to the compressor. i stand to be corrected though. Ignition coil harness will run a ground to that black box you showed earlier and two wires red and black to each coil. it will then plug onto the main harness on a connector near the fuel rail but under the air flow assembly. and yes your red arrow is the coil harness ground

and also from what i can remember i *think* that green wire coming out of the main harness opening goes to the connector that is zip tied. you can pull it off that connector.

Thanks for the info! I traced back the wires, the green wire actually is not connected to the plug that is zip tied so this must mean that, the green wire is the ground of the ignition coil. And the cloth wrapped wire you meantioned awhile ago that is connected to the plug, is connected to the compressor? Which i am assuming is the air-con compressor right? I can clearly see that the wires for that plug have been changed so the only thing i need to change now is the ground brittle ignition coil wires and the throttle body harness wires. Gonna be a fun weekend lol

The plug you are refering to, is that for the a/c compressor?
