Rough running after top overhaul

Recently did a top overhaul on my 400E, replaced valve seals, head gaskets, exhaust gaskets, 4 pcs the lifters, slide and guide rails, tensioner.

Now the engine runs kinda rough, a noticeable amount of vibration that was not present before. Engine revs sometimes drops then comes back to normal, things improve a bit when engines warms up.

Could it be the valves were not seated properly?

No faults shown on the computer, wiring, vacuum lines seem to be in order.

Any ideas? Thanks.

What year is your 400E? It may have the dreaded wiring harness problem that presents itself after a head job.

Production date is 8/92. I have actually replaced the wiring harness a few years ago.

But its seems some of the connectors of the wiring harness have started to break again.

But I recently had the car plugged into the computer, no faults showed up, isnt that enough to discount that it could be the wiring harness? I think any shorts/breaks in the wiring harness usually results in fault codes showing up in the computer.

Which specific parts of the harness should I check out?

I'm not too worried about connector breakage as long as the connectors are seated. Is the insulation flaking off the wires? I'm not sure if breaks (or shorts) in the wires always show up as faults in the computer.

Another thought - maybe you have dirty injectors.

I think the connectors are first to go, they get brittle and break. Then the wire insulation follows, so far the wires still look fine and only a few of the connectors are broken, but I have taped them up.

Will have the injectors checked.

Thanks.
