E320 Winterized

i left my clear corners in and i took my s600 grille out. I took off all the chrome strips on the factory grill and sprayed it black, i think it looks better than the 600 grill. i might even make it my summer grille too, i havent seen anyones car with the grill like that so i might keep it cause its rare. tell me what u think, i also threw a few interior pics up , check out the chrome air vent covers, classy.

this is just my oppinion.. but i think it looked better the way it was before... the factory grille matched your color scheme... the black grill just makes it stick out.... maybe if you had a black car......

as far as the interior chrome.. again it doesnt flow with the interior... their is really no other chrome in the car... it would probably look great if all your zebrano wood was chrome......

im just a fan of everything matching... you cant wear nike shoes with your reebok sweat suit... topping if off with your adiddas hat.......

but then again... these are just my oppinions.. its your car and whatever makes you happy!!!

I think it looks good.

You could also paint the chrome strips black as well.

I kinda like the interior pieces.

Me Too

I love the black grille, but I like it best with the chrome strips reinstalled. The black grille insert matches plenty of other little black things on the car. For example, the light wipers, windshield wipers, and side view mirror mount covers.

The S600 inserts look OK, but I hated the flimsy material and cheap construction of the two that I tried.

I painted my grille black too.

Even on a black car the avantgarde grill looks better.

Did you buy your s600 from that guy in miami off ebay mercedes991? 79 bucks? I am trying one more after the first from this dood this time and hope it is like the picture meaning the sturdy one with the split factory clip on the top and solid surround on each side...the first one i tried was a real flimsy piece of **** where the distance between the horizontals wasn't even the same towards the center. That's the version where there is a little solid "fill" between chromes on the left side. If this one does not work out I am just buying a new oem.

Hmm...I have a question. How did most of you paint the chrome grill itself to color match the car? Did you have to dechrome it or what.

huh? Well you have a different hood since my grill isnt completely attached to the car. I was talking about how did they paint the outer chrome part of the grill. If they just painted over it or if there were steps and measures to be taken.

I know what you mean Chris, the grill frame....from what my body shop of choice said...has to be degreased with a striping agent/degreaser of some sort...then sanded, primed and painted. Even then he said it tends to chip easily, but I'm still gonna do it. He quoted me $200 if he didn't already have the paint. If he has it about $50 cheaper.

Tony.

Just clean it with a good cleaner first. thats what I did.

And the key is to use flexible primer and flexible paint. My grill has been painted for over a year and a half and has maybe one chip in it.

Ashman, my good, warm climate friend, () You live in Cali where the roads never have snow and ice mixed with gravel and salt pummelling your car on a daily basis. Us regular 4 season folks may have to repaint our front end every year. My grille, however, was covered in the 3m clear bra stuff and has been perfect since the day i painted it...

Tbone et al, do the 3M clear bra and the paint shop can just do an easy paint job underneath. (or if you are painting it yourself)
3M is the bomb for paint over chrome applications....
