Question Problems with Auto heat control....blowing cold

All of my heater functions work fine....except when I hit the "auto" button. If I hit auto and crank it up until it reads "HI", it blows nice and hot. But once I turn it down from HI, it blows cold. Doesnt matter if I have it on 86 or 70 or whatever number....it blows cold. Only blows hot air on "HI". Suggestions? Thanks.

Run

the diagnostics, see if any errors are shown and what heater values are at 72 f.
post them.if no errors or out of kilter values----try
disconnect the neg cable on the battery, you know the little door in the pass foot well.Key out of ign. step on brakes for 30 seconds to reset system and hook up neg. lead again.Follow reset procedure for windows and steering wheel, and radio code if needed and see if that resets the climate control unit.

Sure

go buy the 94169 code reader at harbor freight tools or online if no store near you.Runs about 39 bucks, that way it will be handy for when you get the eventual check engine light that all modern cars get,one trip saved to the shop because you have the ability to diagnose a problem can save hundreds or more.

read the diy section on benzworld.org w210 section so you are familiar with repair and maint procedures before you need them.
most of all do proper maint at the proper time and you will have far less need of the abilities of the car to diagnose itself
