More HID questions
I have a '2000 E320 without HIDs, and I would really like to add them, but I know there are a lot of problems. I know this is an old topic, but after doing a search I could not find the answers to all my questions. Does anyone know:
- How to fix the problem with the error messages that you might get after installing OEM HIDS?
- How to fix the high start up power problem with the non-HID wiring/fuses?
- Where to get the best price for the OEM Hela Kits. The best price I found was around $1500!
- Anyone in South Florida who could do the install. I know the front bumper must be removed.
I would appreciate any info or help...

I upgraded to HID’s a couple of years ago. I went with the European Mercedes OEM lights that I got from Steve. In case you don’t know Steve is a member of this forum from the Netherlands. He often travels to the US to do COMMAND and other installs. Check out his website:

The lights themselves are just plug and play. No problems with error messages or changing the wiring or fuses. I did the install myself. Taking off the bumper is not that difficult. There use to be a thread with pictures explaining how.
It has been a couple of years, but I think I paid $600 including shipping from California. I then sold my old lights on Ebay for $150. So it only cost me $450. I don’t know how much he is charging now.
I am not certain on this point, but I believe the European headlights are 6000K, which is brighter then the 4500K US versions from Hella.

I've searched and searched but couldn't find the bumper removal thread you were talking about. I'd like to get this done but have no clue as to how the bumper can be removed.
I think all MB OEM xenon HID are 4300K. You can get 6000K upgrade bulbs from Phillips.

I used mmgrad instructions in the following thread:

It was for a CLK, but the bumper design on the old CLK was similar to the 210. I had help from a friend. It took us about an hour. The only thing we did different was we set the bumper on something so it was elevated when we removed it. That way we did not have to disconnect the fog lamp wires.

there is one
i saw on ebay the other day. I think that auction ends on sunday, right side xenon light and right now it is at about $55 for models 2000-2003. I just bought both pairs of xenon OEM for my 99 $430 with delivery. I couldnt believe the price, I really lucked out!!

No won't fit. 96-99 have same design. 2000-later have another set of design. Different shape & mount point, not by much, but enough to ruin the car look and make the job complex.

You can fit a set of D2R (not D2S, too much glare) Philips 4300K with H7 adaptor plate and a set of xenon ballast into your existing headlight. Should work very well and save you lot of money & enhance the light quality a lot.
