do you know where the HB is?

If yes, the part number is on the outside rim of the HB between the belt and the engine block. It is nearly impossible to see from the front side of the belt. I had to lift the black engine hood off of the V8 to look straight down behind the belt.

If you can see white numbers (degree markings) then you are in the right place, you just have to wait until the HB stops with the part number facing up. Took me three checks before it was in the right position.

Thanks. I think I'm looking in the right place. I'll keep checking.

ok, i took the time to read all replies, but im still confused. i own a 2000 CLK430, roughly around 109k miles on it. the last time i took my vehicle in the service advisor did mention that there was a recall for the HB on my vehicle, they inspect it and said it was fine, but... if theres a recall on a certain part, doesnt that mean that regardless if its fine or not, it should be replaced anyways right? because my vehicle does fall in category. also is all p/n for the HB different? if its not, there no need for me to look for it since some people posted here on the forums for w208s. thanks in advance !

Took my car in today for HB recall. They say mine is OK. HOWEVER, found that poly V-belt was split down the middle and replaced it to the tune of $146 including labor and part. Geezus.........

HB inspection today said that it needed to be replaced. Hour later it was all done.

Still waiting

2000 E320 and I spoke to service advisor twice, the VIN, engine, part number are all in there, but still insist they need a recall/serivce letter from MB.

Still waiting...

Does this apply to E55's?

Does this recall apply to a 2000 E55 AMG?

Tech at dealer determined my HB was not affected. HOWEVER, they found that a 2 ft. section of my drive belt was split down the middle. About $150 parts/labor to replace. Glad they caught it before it broke on me.

The harmonic balancer on my '99 CLK320 gave out on me a few months after the warranty ran out and I had to shell out over $2,100.00 to have it and the parts it took with it replaced. About a year later the car was totaled and so I went and bought a '00 CLK to replace it. Last December I got the recall notice for the '00 and had it checked out, it was fine. This is where the story gets real good. I told the service rep about the problem I had with my '99 and showed him the invoice for the repair and he says I should be able to get a refund from M-B for the money. It took two months but I just got a check in the mail for the full amount. Can't believe it actually happened so thank you M-B.
