Command Navigation Unit or Pioneer Avic n2

I currently have a Pioneer avic-n2, What would be the benifit of switching to the command unit? I believe the pioneer head unit offers more features then the command like live xm-local traffic moniter or the rear view camera. I really like the look of the command. Any suggestions or comments appreciated.

Comand vs. After Market?

My new retrofitted Comand looks like the car came with it when new.

The Pioneers and Alpines have far superior technology and features - but IMHO don't look as good in with the dash of the car. Also they block the climate controls.

I am happy with the Nav on my comand and use the AUX input for XM and Ipod.

going from avic-n2 to COMAND is like getting into a delorean and dialing in year 2000. it's old *** technology. unless you really like the factory look, it's not worth it.

btw, in regards to blocking HVAC controls, just transpose the location of the head unit and HVAC. that way, you'll only be blocking the hazard and seat warmer buttons.

great idea to swap the HVAC controls

if I would have known that I might have opted for the after-market

I have a way to do it, but would rather share it privately.

Umm... private why keep it private?

The first way to do it is flip the head unit around. There is a little grey sticker take it off save it later to reapply. When you take the sticker off you see 2 metal points like periods. You must solder the 2 units together with one small piece across. Be carefull though not to over solder.

The second way is to use to switchs. Which is more complicated and harder. The first method works for some units not all I dont know why. They just might have a different batch number. If the first method doesnt work let me know and Ill find out exactly what you have to wire in the switchs to.

Thanks hank. Im a technology type person. I rather have function over looks. Im thinking you can always get the double din stuff from steve and put in a eclipse which would give it a similiar factory look + great features. But for now I am happy with the single din dvd player. Im on my second one in the same car.

Also lorinserCclass where is your car at? HAHA I like that picture better in your SIG.

anyone know of installers in LA?

i am wanting to go aftermarket with an avic-z1 or a car pc (streetdeck) - does anyone know of installers here in the southbay area (hermosa, manhattan, redondo?) - or anywhere in LA for that matter. - I have an 01 e55 with SINGLE din and i need a custom cut out or some sort of bezel (or the panel with the command installed) in order to make it work - i do not want the motorized stuff - just a double din touch screen

I believe all you got to do is buy the wood grain double din piece that is used on the command unit, by the way I did finally install the my Pioneer Avic N2 for $100 dollars at a place in Salinas called Sound Waves.
