Got the service records today and.......

not much has gone wrong in 4 years and 26,000 miles with my 2002 E320. One instrument bulb, air flow meter contact fault, and mass air flow sensor. The cat converter is being fixed on the 19th. So, doesn't seem to bad compared to some major issues many of you have had.

The 2002 Hundai Elantra I bought my daughter new, now has 41,000 miles and not one warranty item yet, only oil changes at Jiffy Lube and my 98 Accord with over 100K miles still has not had one warranty issue yet either.

I feel fortunate.

I personally know several people with MB's dating from the mid 90's forward with absolutely no problems.... they're very reliable on a whole.. but remember... people who buy these cars expect the world of them.. which will lead to more complaints due to the high standards expected out of them. Not to say that some cars aren't lemons, and that certain people haven't had major problems... but I can be sure that every brand of car made has those stories.. Including my friends down the street who are on their second Honda Odessy(sp?) after Honda bought theirs back. and contemplating getting rid of that one now due to problems..

1997 E320 bought with 40k miles.

blown head gasket, has electrical problems, and the transmission is shifting kinda hard.

at how many miles did the head gaskit blow? That's very typical at 70-80K on any high compression car..

Have you checked the trans fluid level?

trans fluid level is fine, and the color is also good.
