During June of 2001 we PURCHASED a 2001 ML 320. After only 10 months of driving the truck turned out to be a lemon, and after 10 months MB did a 'buy back' to avoid me filing under the lemon law. During the initial purchase we had also purchased a 4 year MBUSA warranty for $2550 (4 yr warranties are no longer sold by MBUSA). This warranty was terminated at the dealership since we no longer would own the ML.
Today I received a check for $1,130..!!!! Unbelievable!! How can they deduct over $1,000 for 10 months of warranty ownership when the entire 4 year warranty only cost $2550 to begin with?!
I would think a 4 year warranty at $2550 would be pro-rated at approx $-637 per year, or better yet..since they sold me the lemon in the first place refund my entire $2550 paid for the extended warranty purchased, but never used.
MBUSA told me to speak to the finance mgr at my dealership, the dealership said to speak with MBUSA warranty department. This is ridiculous!!

i dont' get it.. is this an extended warranty that you purchased... if so.. you should get all your money back since it's not in the extended period.... actually either way you need to get all of it back.... speak to MB dealer and also MBUSA... see if you can get in touch with the regional rep and try and get your loot back... coz it was a lemon in the first place.....
Yes, it was for the extended warranty. Since I posted this I have heard from several other people who say they were screwed out of major $$$$$ on extended warranties that were never used when trading up from one model year to another.
MBUSA is trying to get it off their backs, and of course the dealer''s finance manager hasn't returned my phone calls. They can rest assured I won't go away quietly on this one.

Or small claims court. That $$ amount should fit under the cap.
Fuzzo, why did you sell your c240?

I complained to MBUSA, and they had the regional Rep call me..he was the same guy who handled my trade, and he was shocked. He called the dealership, and within 4 mins they called back to say the check amt was incorrect. They stated they mailed me the money back from MBUSA, but forgot to put in their portion of the money (another $1100) as warranty costs are split between MBUSA, and the dealer that sold it. When a reimbursement is in order both parties must reimburse for the cancelled warranty.
They promised to have me reimbursed within the week. I wonder how many other people have rec'd incorrect warranty reimbursements, and just figured it was all they were due.

When you buy an extended warranty through the dealer there is an actual 'cost' factor that the dealer pays the manufacture for the warranty; the difference is profit to the dealer.
When the warranty is cancelled due to trading or selling the vehicle you never get the full amount back; your situation was different because it was a vehicle buy-back.
Typically both the manufacture and dealer will send you the respective portions... maybe the M-B check was processed quicker than the dealers... could be an honest mistake.
Glad to hear your getting a full reimbursement!
