Traded from Civic to E320
I am the new owner of a '97 E320. After driving it for 3 weeks, I left it at the garage for some body work (rust removal and repainting). Can't wait to get it back!
"smoked silver" (I guess that's a fancy name for beige)
54,000 miles
automatic (do they make anything else?)
no CD (soon to be remedied)
A1 condition; feels tighter than my 3-year old Passat
IMO colour is not the best looking, but certainly has its advantages (never looks dirty, does not attract police attention)
Coming from a '95 Civic CX, I can tell you this is mucho luxuro... Driving the E is like driving a tank with a jet engine.

Welcome, welcome.
You'll have a blast driving it. She sounds nice.
You should've kept the Civic and put it in the trunk of the MB, just in case you need another seat or 2.

I'll use that line with my Tercel and Golf-owning friends!

I used to drive a 88 civic. Never gave me any problems for the 8yrs I've owned it. If not for the accident, I'd probably still have it.
Currently I drive a 86' 300E. My car is still tight and quiet. Those who don't know much about MB think my car is a 2000+ model (probably because the C class looks like the W124). My cousing bought a 95 civic about 3 months ago. I rode in it last week and it was freaking noisy, everything was rattling and you could hear the wheels/axles spinning.
For cars older than 10yrs, I don't think you can beat a Benz. They are still tight even after 200,000 miles. You'll have the regular maintenance stuff to take care of (ie. transmission, alternator, tune ups, etc) but I'd rather spend $$$$ on a Benz than a Honda.

Yes the 96 and 97 is a w124 .. its only from 98 and up its a w210
There is one exception to that rule..
IF the car is a late 97.. AND the color is RED.. then its a w210
-there is wery few of those out there..

The W124 ended in 95, the W210 began in the 96 model year and went until 2002 when it was replaced by the W211.
The W124 is more of a box compared to the W210. Does your car have round headlights? Then it is a W210. No exceptions.

I also just recently upgraded from a civic to a Mercedes. I had a 98 civic which i put into a few carshows. I got sick of it, sold it, bought a 96 E320. The driving difference is like night and day. Everyone has to grow up sometime. I still have another civic, which i race at the track only.

1996 has the same engine and transmission as the W124
1997 has the same engine as the W124, but the updated 5-speed transmission
1998 was the first year of the V6
2000 was the first year with the major face lift
2002 or 2003 (don't know exactly) W211 replaced the W210
Your comment about a 1997 E320 being designated as a W210 based on color is incorrect.

Nice to see another local boy on this forum. First thing I noticed on your picture was your shaka sign...only the locals do that. You can take a person off the Hawaiian islands, but you can never remove the Hawaiian culture off a person.
I grew up in Ewa Beach (now referred to as Kapolei...whatever, it's still Ewa Beach to me) and moved to San Diego for college. I had my Civic then and it served me well even after college life. But as you alluded to, everyone has to grow up some time. When I moved back to Hawaii, I bought the Benz and I love it. I may have worst gas mileage, but I've gained so much more...power, room, respect, luxary ride, quiet, and best of all...girls admire the Benz over "Ricers" (unless you're into teenie boppers).

michakaveli: They are like a smoke blue. The light output looks like the same color as a hiper white bulb. Its self adhesive and is super thick.
jrmdo1: Yeah man, I still go to L&L over here in cali like every week or so to get my kalua and cabbage fix. lol. Not the same, but pretty close. About the teenie boppers, with a civic like my old one, you get plenty attention at jailridge when you cruise by. hahaha....
