flat hood emblem not flush?

OK, first of all, I did do a search and have read a dozen posts about this. I've read it and re-read it over the course of two days. But someone tell me once and for all if the OEM flat hood emblem is suppose to NOT be flush against the hood and stick out about 1mm? The hood curves right at that location of emblem, and it surprises me MB didn't make an emblem that also curved.

My other thoughts are may have the wrong emblem on my car (I have a W210), or I didn't push in the emblem far enough into the mounts.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I took a look at mine and the fitment is not the greatest but good enough. As long as you don't have any significant gaps where water might seap in you should be ok. It's just one of those things I guess. I put a flat badge on my wife's c230 and it seems to fits better than on my E but it's the same deal. Go figure.

There are two sizes of emblems, 1.75" and 2.25"....most common on the aftermarket is 2.25" but the dimple in our cars are for 1.75....so most of the time, they will sit outside the dimple and above the hood and not fully follow the curve of the hood but it is mimimal and almost flush if you tinker around with it.

The 1.75" (if available) should work better, although I've not installed or found one yet. My 1.75" AMG emblem has a curved base that fits into the contours of the dimple in the hood so it is flush.

My 2.25 fits flat, but you need to work at it. It is plastic and can mold somewhat.

I don't think that MB ever made a flat mount for the W210. All the flush mounts available are either aftermarket or modified from other models like the ML or SLK. Whitey is correct that only a 1.75" will fit correctly in the indentation. Many other owners have made the larger emblem fit to an acceptable curve.

Hey, even the w210's rear star is on a curved portion of the trunk!

Yeah, I have the flat aftermarket on the front and it is not 100% flush, but it is damn tight.

I reverted back to the standing-star emblem because the flat emblem was not a perfect fit---I wish it was.

Just curious, why get a flat emblem? Why change it out from the standing emblem?

I put the flat one on because my stand up one broke(my mom broke it on accident)
and the flat one looks nicer and give the hood more of a sleek look

True, but it's a classy hood ornament and makes a statement about the car you drive. Personally, I wouldn't want to hide it.

I got the flat emblem to fit over the weekend. The emblem does not stick up anymore. Basically, with the emblem off the car, I tapped the emblem further into the moutning plate using a flat-head screwdriver and a hammer. I tapped lightly with a soft cloth under the face side of the emblem.

So now it's sitting flush with the hood.
