I hear that you can hook the DAS laptop to the car and program the ECU to the country code of Germany. Then the Vmax is turned off. Who knows if this is true, however, I ran it by MBtech and he said he has heard of that working as well.

You will void you warranty however.

Damn, I need the DAS software !

limiter

I thought that all of the cars had limiters. You can get a chip that has different engine management and also has no limiter. I read in a C32 article a few months ago that mentioned how AMG made some cars (Euro version) with no limiter, so my impression was that even the Euro cars had limiters. I've been bugging my salesperson to get in touch with AMG so that my next car has no limiter. If we can get rid of the limiter, where can we drive at VMax? I can tell you that even a gentle curve at 150+ on an interstate scared the **** out of me. Even though the car felt planted at those speeds, I had surpassed my limit as a driver.

This has been asked of AMG many times and they still give the same reply. No cars destined for the U.S. will have their limiter removed. It's a MBUSA decision and if it is removed, all warranties will be null and void.

I think i found the answer. Has anyone tried this company Wetterauer America?? http://www.wetterauer.com

They sell the ECU chip for the E55 for $995.00. Has anyone tried this on their car? Comments?

This is a message I got from Wetterauer America

Hi Johnny,
If your car has the ESP function, which I think I can safely assume it does,
then we cannot do the upgrade. For some reason, the tuned software is not
compatible with the ESP unit. The result is that the car will not turn over
and you would have to have your ECU and ESP units replaced. We are working
on the problem, but I do not have an estimated time when the chip will be
ready. You could contact www.brabus.com and see what they have. They really
specialize in tuning Mercedes.

Also they never did answer my question regarding Vmax, whether or not their programming eliminates the Vmax

i thought the speedlimiter was there for reliability issues? Somebody mentioned once that it was because the gasoline here is of a lower grade, so the cars can't sustain high(er) speeds as they do in Europe.

Mercedes, Audi, and BMW (but not Porsche) all made a "gentleman's agreement" to limit their cars to 250 kph (155 mph) because of considerble political pressure from safety and environmebntal groups in Germany
