JIM: We see few engines of any type that wear as well as your MB 4.3L. You don't know the miles put on this oil and we can only guess, but it was not many. The oil type may be 10w40. Our average oil sample from this type engine has been in use 8,660 miles, so operators of this type engine get the most out of their oil fills, Universal average wear is based on those miles. We suggest going with the computer for the oil changeas 7,700 more miles should get you up to about average. The TBN was 9.4, quite high. Resample at the change to monitor wear.
Thanks for your comments, SOSH.
On the contrary, I find UOA's (especially the first one) very meaningful. Here's what I see: a robust oil, with an excellent additive package that's holding it's own very well. TBN is extraordinary, the oil did not shear out of grade (still a mid-40). Phos and zinc not depleted. And besides all that, low wear numbers. I've never owned a vehicle with such long oil change intervals, so seeing the low wear numbers was a bonus...
Thanks,
Jim

If you are going to do 6 month or 6,000 mile oil changes, then you can save some money and use a conventional SM oil in the correct grade for your climate. You could also use the regular paper Hengst or Mann filter. The fleece filter was developed so that the filter wouldn't break down over an extended OCI (up to 20k miles or 2 years).
I am assuming that you used M1 0W-40 (8 quarts) when you refilled the crankcase. That oil will easily go 1 year / 13k miles. The results of your UOA were EXCELLENT ! It isn't only that the oil is excellent; these MB engines do not have variable valve timing, which makes things harder on the oil, and these engines have very large crankcases (approx 8 quarts).
I am going to be doing an oil change and UOA on my 03 E320 in the next couple of months. I am changing it out at around 12 to 13k miles (approximately 20k km). If I were to go by the FSS on my car, it would go to nearly 18k miles or 2 years.
Good luck and enjoy your car!

As good as that UOA looked, I'll still use the 0w40 M1 and the fleece filter. The purpose of the early change was just curiosity. Since I wasn't 100% sure how long the oil was there (or what it was...), I just wanted to change it. I'm also doing the tranny.
Mine took about 8.5 qts of M1 0w40, btw.
Thanks!
Jim
The only other things I can think of to check on a W210 if you want to keep it a long time is to make sure your car is not subject to the harmonic balancer recall and to check the spring perches for rust as well as rust at the bottom of the doors behind the rubber seal. If the car lived in a desert climate and you are in a desert climate, you can probably skip the rust check. If you live in the snow belt, then the rust check may not be a bad idea.
You can search those topics and see what you find. The only other common problem reported on these boards that I have seen in the W210 is occasional failure of the power rear window regulator.
Thats all I can think of. Enjoy your car. I will post on the W210 board and at Bitog when I do my UOA.

I found a really good deal on the MB Z80001-10773 ATF on the web, and bought a bunch of it. Less than 10 bucks a bottle...
Thanks
Jim
