have you physically checked the bulb connections..??
one may be loose and still working when you look at it but randomly throwing a error… just guessing now...
sounds kind of strange

Yes, the tail light bulb holder can cause a problem. I have been having intermitant "Bullb Failure" messages and was not able to see which bulb was causing the message. I finally found that the bulb holder was not making good contact with the tail light assembly and had arced and pitted the tail light. I have cleaned the contact area and bent the bulb holder contacts to make better contact. If this problem comes back, I will have to replace the tail light assembly.

I have had the same problem since buying my car. It is very periodic and I have not had it occur for two weeks now. Often it would just occur for one short drive then the next time I started the car and turned the lights on it would be gone...Knock on wood...I think it is a gremlin who comes out just to scare the **** out of me. I also went through high water and all the brake like malfuction messages came on, but the next time I started the car it was fine...

I re-checked the connectors, I switched them with the left right side. Then I noticed one balb is dark and about to go out but not yet out. I replaced it. It has been 3 days now without any problems, Knwo on wood too.

I got my fingers crossed for ya,I had the same problems over and over. Changed bulbs and saw it was a faulty fuse, but one more time,JUST ONE MORE TIME,and I'll change my tail lights to the LEDs which I have already...

I get this a lot it comes on when it feels like it. Just check, clean and reseat all the connections. It's very annoying. Try to check all the lights as soon as you get the error message it may be the brake lights that's where I get this problem.
Good Luck and keep pushing the "R" button!
