horsepower quest has begun....

Hi all,
As you may remember (my previous posts) I was looking to boost my HP in my 02 E320SE with a mere 29K on the ticker...

I have decided to go the Kleeman route. My local dealship (Atlanta Classic Cars) is an authorized Kleeman reseller. I am starting off small... I will be getting the ECU flash upgrade, Sport Cams, Headers and sport tuned exhaust. Not sure how much HP this will net but I am hoping somewhere around 45 extra HP. The ECU upgrade alone is supposed to net me 25 HP... so with the cams, headers and exhaust... I should have no problem getting the extra 20 HP. The dealship states the cam combined with the headers will show a marked difference with the ECU flashed for these upgrades.

221 HP- 266 HP
232 lbs- 278 lbs... approximately... never can tell.....

Also, I was told I can expect firmer shift points with the transmission...

ECU Upgrade- $990
Headers - $750
Exhaust - $1000
Cams - checking price... Hopefully under $1200..

Funny... I can do all this to my 1970 Corvette for under $1000... hahaha although no ECU to upgrade...

things with and without wheels
I know what you mean .
I did my 350 engine in my Trans Am for under 2 grand.
It was blueprinted and had all top notch internals minus the connecting rods

Ouch....

ECU- $1800...
they will not sell the cams seperately...

Stage 1 supercharger and ECU..

$14K installed and give me 350 HP...

Hell... I can get a 572 Chevy 640 for 9K.. hahahah

I am not sure if the boss will allow me to spend this kind of money...

Damn... I thought I had it this time... I read EVOSport has a ECU upgrade for $840 and nets me 249HP... Maybe I can get the headers elsewhere with an exhaust... I guess this is the price of Benz ownership...???

Gotta love the 88 notch back GTAs...

too bad that in 88 the ones with t-tops came only with 305 HO.
After the warranty expired I swapped for the 350.
Now it's just sitting , resting ( I meant to say rusting)and waiting for my kid to have fun with it. Damn that is scaring me .

Why would you want to do this to a 6cyl with the resulting expense?? Why not just buy a V8 or, a later vehicle. This is money not well spent.

I keep asking myself the same question. The car is almost paid off... this coming May... I am original owner and at 29K... is it still new. I am very hesitate to buy someone else's used car.... especially a high performance car. I have a hard time seeing the numbers to boost the V6 to 300HP. I believe this the magic number to "feel" the horsepower.

I did look at an M45 Infiniti.... good price for the horsepower... but the interior is nothing like my Mercedes. I guess I am spoiled on Benz...

I tried to find a LOW mileage 02 E55 as I like the W210 body style.... and the new 211 E55 is waaaay out of my comfort zone...

Evosport has a ECU upgrade for $840 to push me to 249HP... fairly inexpensive for the gain... Not sure if adding headers to the mix for HP gain... This is like the million dollar question for all of us E320 owners.. how can be go MORE Power for a "reasonable" price...

This is like my 5th post on this damn topic. I need to sell my car and buy a Honda... hahahhahaha

Sean's Sister--
shoot, if you think kleemann is expensive then don't check out renntech......top tuners are going to be major $$$$ but then again playing around with a euro is far more expensive then a muscle car....i've had this problem before myself on what to do for more power and i'm still dealing with it......

Headers $750?
Exhaust $1000?
Those are not Kleemann prices i dont think they are far more expensive.

You might want to call House of Power. The owner makes a Vortec supercharger kit for your car. I should give you about 100hp gain. I have a buddy with one his clk430 and looks and sounds incredible.
hopracing.com You might have to ship or drive your car to Southern California. I would guess it would cost you about 8k installed.

Thanks Mario- also... is that a body kiy on your car? I am not real familar with the 99 E55... but it looks smoother in the front... new bumper? Your friend w/ 430... is that car here? I read a member named Josh has HoP supercharger... atleast I think I read that... (lotta posts...)

HoP may be the answer to my HP need. Kleeman is sweet... but more cash than I want to part with... on my SIX!

Thanks-
Anthony

The body kit is stock, I just did the grill and the center between the fog lights in black.
The CLK430 belongs to Josh K. Did you see his kit? It is very impressive. You might want to conisder what others are doing to their 6cyl. Some of the members are putting in C32 motors because they bolt right up and you can you use your tranny. With pulleys, headers and ECU tunning some of the guys are over 400hp.

Mario-

HA... I just got off the phone with www.qaaparts.com. They sent me this email...

Price: 880.00 (Qty (1) - shipping included in this price to anywhere in contiguous U.S.)

Interchange 321-53320 (This is not a dealer part number but rather the used part id number)

Description: 03 - C32 - Supercharger - 203 Type, C230 (Cpe & Sdn)
Warranty: Standard Warranty . Please click on the link to review our entire warranty policy.
Hours: Monday - Friday 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 PM CST and now open on Saturdays 8:00 a. m. - 3:00 p.m. CST

There was a mistake as I wanted the entire engine and supercharger. They don't have the engine but do get them in .. THE WHOLE THING... Engine, Supercharger and ECU.... he said.... "ah man... it's cheap... couple grand..." Couple grand to me is $2k...

What do I need to change to drop the engine in? What about the intercooler lines? I guess I need to change out my radiator? I can't get to Hop from work... what's their number????

Anthony
oh yeah... what "special tools" do I need to take out my 29K motor... hahaha

Spoke with Josh at HoP... good guy. Knows his stuff.

10K for the vortech setup with dyno tuning and stuff... extra 120-130HP
5K for cams, headers, head porting and polishing.... extra 50 HP or so

Numbers are good... but then we spoke about the C32 AMG swap...

He said he is doing this right now to another forum members car... W209...
He said the swap is simple enough, just need to make sure it is from a left hand driver... hahah... He said engine swap should be about 18-20 hours... or roughly 2K labor. IF... big IF... I can get the C32 soup to nuts for roughly 2K... my option is a no brainer.

Output hp at rpm
(SAE net)
349 at 6100

Max. torque at rpm
(lbs.-ft.)
332 at 4400

MAKE IT AN EVEN 5K... and it should be the only 2002 E320 SE AMG KOMPRESSOR running the streets. It won't be the fastest car here... but I will be mine...

Hey... I'm not a squib anymore... I am now a member... thank you thank you... save the applause... just throw money...
