Lowering your car (?)

The cars look very nice, and I read about how they ride better.

Why are they not lower from factory?

They do not ride better, but they handle better though.

Some people prefer the stiffer, sportier ride, however most people who buy a mercedes are looking for a soft comfortable ride.

Ah, that makes sense. That does it for me, not willing to sacrifice comfort for looks.

HI, you can try changing the rubber pads that should help you get nice look without loosing any of the ride comfort ....

BTW, anyone know if there is any degradation from adding larger wheels?

Did the E55 ('02) have 18" wheels, and would that be a "limit" in terms of MB specs?

The ride suffers not from the larger rims but from the lower profile tires that larger rims require. Less sidewall means less cushion.

Yes the W210 E55 Has 18 Inch Rims ..and Yes it Does ride Firm... As stated above Lower profile tires/sidewalls result in a Firm ride. The Brochure Even states that the W210 AMG E55 Will ride Firm..and Tire wear WILL be Higher than a Non AMG Car

I Have The 18 Inch AMG E55 Rims on my W210 Wagon and the ride is Great..No Complaints from The Wife..Also its Lowered with Sport Bilstein front shocks..Rear is self Level system

mark, did the use of the Bilstein Sport contribute solely to the front drop? ie
no spring change?

I changed Everything at Once..But To Answer the question Shocks Will NOT Lower the car..Only Springs/Spring Pads will drop the car

Mark, re: raymond g-'s question; how much lower did it go?

Would combining what SaMas said and the shocks be a good way to lower the car without sacrificing comfort/ride?

I already have low profile tires from factory (see pic), and am happy with the way they respond.

My W210 Wagon is aprox 1 1/2 Lower than stock height

The Spring Pads would be a Option..Check to see what Bump/Notch that you have on your pads on the car before you think about doing it..as You May have One or Two Bump pads on the car..easy to tell with the car raised on a lift...

As I Installed One Bump/Notch pads(My car had Three Bump Notch) with my H/R springs and Sport Bilstein shocks...Remember Sport shocks WILL firm up the ride...
