if you could lose your current 97-02 Eclass for a pre 03 (99-02) W220 Sclass (S430 or S500), would you do it? please share reasons why or why not.. thanks

Hmmmm...why not a 2003 again? The reason why I ask is because of the updated interior, but in any case, this is what I was going to do in a couple of years. However, I was considering a 2005 or 2006 S500, when they're fresh off lease. They're wonderful cars, and honestly I wouldn't do it for a pre-2003, because of it looking so 'dated'. You'd have to change the headlights, taillights, mirror LEDs, and then you'd be set, I suppose. I'd wait and get at least a 2003, IMHO.

I guess any car looks dated if it's out long enough. I want to get an S500 ,too
but with my daughter going to college, seemingly right around the corner,I'm holding back. But after you drive a Mercedes, you don't get a Camry. Your peers will think you've lost your snobbishly good taste...:>)

I don't think the 220 has airmatic like the 211E. I believe it is ABC which is hydraulic.

guys, i found a 02 S430 with 56k miles in mint condition (clean carfax & MB VMI) locally for $23k. i think it's no brainer i should buy this car, b/c this is lower than wholesale/manheim auction. i like W210 E320 but just about every 2002 E320 I've seen locally have $21K+ pricetags.

The 220 S class is nicer and has more room than the 210 E class by a good margin. However, the 210 E class is ultra reliable due to its simplicity where as the 220 S class is not. Try it out and if you don't like it sell the car and buy something else.

if you can get the 220 s500 instead the e class, get the s500. my dad has a s500 and that car takes a dump on my e420. the only thing bad about the s class is its too big, but you feel like a big dog when youre riding in a s500

It must have been in comfort mode because sport is very tight.

I wouldn't trade an E for an S. S Class vehicles are designed to be driven with an chauffeur. An E can be driven by a chauffeur (Warren Buffet is sometimes driven in an E when he is in New York, the German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her predecessor were both chauffeured in an E500 and an S500, and many other heads of states are chauffeured in mid-sized E Classes) or an owner-driver.

The S Class (especially the long wheelbase model) should only be driven by a chauffeur unless you really don't have a choice and the E can be driven by both.

This is probably why you felt the S to be excessively large.
