Anyone Personally Replace 02 Sensors?

I'm ironing out my idle issues I have been encountering, and have been doing tons of research here to see how most of these issues were handled by other members.

I have ordered my MAF sensor (without the housing), and would like to personally replace my 02 Sensor(s) as well. I'm wondering:

A: Should I just replace both and knock out this job solo?
B: Replace one should just one be bad?

Thing is, I have not had the car "properly" diagnosed since I pretty much know what the idle issues are, based on the tons of posts here.

Has anyone personally replaced their own sensors? I've located them on the exhaust system, and looks like a cake job (of course, taking your time is always recommended) and I think I can do this myself.

Any insight to this topic would be much appreciated, as well as images if any.

Happy Holidays.

IMHO, you should have CEL on if either MAF or O2 sensor gone bad. You then could use an OBD 2 to diagnose the problem.

That was my thought as well - no need to replace them unless they have gone bad. Your Check Engine Light would be on if they are bad.

Thx guys.

As a matter of fact, the CEL is on, with all the usual symptoms of the slightly off idle.

My first approach was going to be replacing the MAF myself, which is a simple task. Should I then take it to get diagnosed to see which O2 Sensors are to be replaced, or just buy them both, and do the work solo without a diagnostic?

Of course, If I get it diagnosed that would tell me which sensor(s) to replace. and I could save about over 100.00 on not having to purchase a sensor.

I think either way, clearing out the faults (electronically) would be in order even after work has been performed.

Thx for the insight guys. Much appreciated.

That is not the case... they can be GOING bad and never throw a code... but while they are going bad, you can experience the issues of a faulty part.

My O2 Sensor was going out, never threw a code NEVER had a check engine light... but it was replaced and I have had no issues since.

Quick Update:

Installed new MAF Sensor, CEL is still being shown. So, at this point, without an official diagnostic, I suspect my O2 Sensor(s) might be out.

Well, at least I have a new MAF huh...

You could take the car to AutoZone and have them pull the codes for free. Once you have the codes, it should narrow down what the issues are.

Smile

New update,

The CEL finally went out with uninstalling / reinstalling one more time, along with cleaning the connection ports on the engine side.

I still want to get the codes pulled just to see if there are any other issues apparent.

I didn't know Auto Zone could do this. I'll try them out. Hopefully, they don't try to say: "Wellllll....since it's a Mercedes and all, I need to see what kind of credit cards you have so that..."

Thx again guys.
