Isn't the E320 0-60?

Isn't the E320 0-60 time 6.9 seconds for models 1998+? It feels as if my car does not go 0-60 in that time for an audi A4 which goes 0-60 in 7.8 beats me. Is there something wrong with my car? How much can a full tank of gas make as a difference? I'm kind of confused and it feels like I don't have much power either when it comes to merging, but that might just be how it is? Any help would be appreciated.

Lol Raymond, so there is about 100 pounds of gasoline that could be taken into account for, But it still was going preety slow.. Also dt, the pre 1998 E320s had an inline 6 or something (1996 and 1997) and 1998 was when they first started using the v6 which increased the 0-60 time from i think 7.5 to 6.9 or so.

quoted from wikipedia "This was the first time a V6 engine was offered (1998) to replace the straight-6 configuration (1996-1997). This new Mercedes-Benz M112 engine produced 221 hp (164 kW) and 229 ft·lbf (310 N·m) of torque and offered a 0-60 mph (98 km/h) of 6.9 seconds. Other offerings were the E420 (1997), E430 (1998-2002), and E55 AMG (1999-2002) with 354 hp (264 kW) and a 5.4 L normally aspirated engine. In North America, the range also features two E300 diesel engine models, including both non-turbocharged (1996-1997) and turbocharged (1998-1999) 3.0 litre straight-6 units. In 2000, Mercedes-Benz discontinued diesel powerplants in the E-class in North America. In Europe, the diesel engines were superseded by more advanced Common Rail (CDI) units (2000-2002). The CDI engines were not offered in North America until the E320 CDI in the newer W211 model."

Anyone else know why this was happening?

well, would you like someone on this fourm who is trusted to back my statement up? He and my friend raced and my friends I6 e320 destroyed him in two seprate runs. one was from a dig up to about 100. the other was the audi passing him at around 90 and having it flat to the floor and my friends e320 caught up and passed him.

Its the truth, I raced TommyGunn in his E320, I had perfect level ground to launch from, I have a spec stage II clutch + carbon fibre intake + forge 007 DV.

By 40 it was pretty much done ( when I shifted into 2nd ) his car is definitley much quicker to 60 than the stats say. At 60 he was up by 2 and by 110 it was about 6 lengths, it was pretty bad ownage on me, come january im having my car chipped yet again =) Then its over.

I was actually comparing it to a 2004 audi a4 1.8t that I was trying to beat which goes 0-60 in 7.8. Mine should go 0-60 in 6.9 and BOTH are stock. Why is he beating me? It feels like i have a loss of power, and no, i will not nos it lol. What can I do?

You sure he isn't chipped?
When chipped my A4 runs in the low 6 seconds to 60. Turns into a very different animal.

I'm positive, it's all stock. I think there is something wrong with MY car. It might have something to do with the aux fan? Before it used to be on all the time and I was able to win him. Now that it is back to normal, I can't.. Maybe the aux fan caused the car to get colder air which made it run faster. I don't know, there has to be something wrong.. me getting smoked by a 1.8t..What's the fastest way to accelerate in a E320? "S" mode? Flooring completely till it hits the button behind the petal?

Nate;

I seriously doubt that the auxiliary fan running has anything to do with it; it's not blowing cooler or cold air into the air intake, is it? I think something else is wrong and the running fan is just a coincidence...

Maybe so, do you know of any other ways to raise torque that isn't a very big mod?

I've beat my friends A4 3.0 so you should be able to beat a 1.8T.

Yea but what could be the problem? Isn't the only thing you can do in an automatic is floor it? We both floored it and we both did not hold the brake at the same time to build rpms or something. He smoked me, it seems as if somethign is wrong with my car. I was in "S" mode and I floored it to the button behind the pedal. I hear of everyone beating Audi A4s and statistically, it should because E320 0-60 time is 6.9 seconds and 2004 Audi A4 1.8t 0-60 time is 7.8. Any other suggestions and thanks in advanced for the help.

Put your car in auto mode and floor it and do nothing else. I know we have this problem on the ML's with the MAF sensor being dirty or not working right. Sometimes it will not trigger the check engine light until it is failed or really bad. I suggest maybe buying a MAF sensor on ebay or the cheapest place and trying to replace it. Basically the MAF sensor (if you car has it) control the air mixture in your motor when its dirty or not working right it will mess up the air mixture causing a loss of power that would especially be felt in the upper RPM's over 4k.

That's basically exactly what is happening. The upper rpms over 4k move SO SLOW. I'll look up some information about MAF sensors. There is no way to just clean it? :$

Its possible that it was damaged and could not be cleaned?

Could also be clogged up cats, dirty air filters ect... My next guess would be spark plugs since you say upper RPM.

I have never changed the spark plugs lol, so that's what i'm going for next. Maybe I should also clean my air filter, do I just pop off the plastic and wipe down whatever is in there? or Do I have to buy a new air filter?

Dude, you are scaring me. You never changed your spark plugs or replaced your air filter. Please tell me you changed the oil. In 6.9 seconds you should race right down to your local auto parts store. No, seriously, tune up your car and try again.

Nate, did you not feel an extra "surge" of power at or just before 4000RPM? That's what I feel in my 1998 E320. I think it has something to do with the direct intake flaps opening at that RPM to increase high end power. In your case it looks like the opposite. I would so a service on your car.

Oh BTW, I raced my friends 2003 X5 4.4i again and dusted him in a roll and a stop. (That's when we start at pretty much the same time). I love it how I pull ahead in 3rh gear!

when they say something has a lower torque curve, does that mean that it gets its torque at lower rpm's? cause the e430 is suppose to be faster to 60 than the e420 b/c of a flatter torque curve, so if thats true, i can just drop the down to 3rd or 2nd so the rpms are higher to get all the torque out of my car, and still keep up right?

Lets take a new approach to this... Are we sure this E320 does 0-60 in 6.9 seconds.. The new 06+ E350 only do it in 6.6 seconds and they have 270hp and 260lb tq along with a 7 speed gear box.

My new 328i has 230hp and 200lb tq 6 speed gear box and is rated at 0-60 in 6.9 seconds. And it weighs a good 300+lbs less than the E320.

My guess with the 3.2l v6 and 5 speed gear box you are looking at a 0-60 time in the mid 7's. Which explains why you are losing to audis since the ones you are racing are in the low 7's to 60.
