Exclamation Spring Perch woes...add me to the list

While upgrading my suspension my mechanic noticed my spring perch rusting...it's actually detached from the chassis for about an inch.

Before yesterday, when I pushed down on the front passenger corner I'd hear a slight squeak. I assumed it was either the springs or shocks that I was about to replace. It was actually my spring perch flexing ever so slightly.

So,

Any tips on trying to get one of the 3 MB dealerships in my area to fix it for free?

If they don't want to do it, how much is it going to take to fix it?

Thanks,

C

(OK...now where's my bus pass?)

All I know is they grind the old perch off and weld on a new one. Unfortunatly I've never heard of it being under some kind of warranty still though...

How much should I expect to spend on parts and how much for labor?

My '96 E320 had rusty spring perches after 67K miles, really really bad, had them fixed and paid by MB dealer... Talk to your local MB dealer, most likely they will inspect and fix them for you --- for free, because your car is newer than mine

Good luck

Update: Things aren't looking good. The first word from the dealership is "We can't help you." I'm waiting to hear from the higher-ups.

That sucks... This is a major safety issue and MB should pay to fix it. Someday someone will die because of this problem and MB will be paying dearly for law suit... No wonder why more people are moving to Lexus

CQHall, don't give up, contact MB USA HQ and complain!!! and also, send a letter & pictures to MBCA national magazine and have it published so thousands of MB owners and MB management can see the perch failure. That should be a good PR for MB.

the way i understand it, if the local dealer agrees to work on the car and sends a report to MB USA, MB USA will pay for the repair. You have to find a dealer who's willing to help. It's most likely your local dealer, especially in affluent locales such as NoVa, who doesn't care about 10 year old W210s when they can make big bucks on servicing and maintaining brand new Benzes. Of course the stealer weasels are going to tell ya "sorry MB USA won't do a thing" story and blame the HQ

hard truth

Working with lawyers daily they claim its cheaper to pay out the lawsuits as apposed to having a major recall.

Update:

I just got my car back. Parts and Labor cost roughly $700. MBUSA covered 50%. So, I paid $350 + tax.

I sent a letter to MBUSA, they had the local rep check it out and blamed it on the salty conditions the vehicle was in previously. The rep said thanks, it's a 9 year old car, can't help you. In front of the techs, etc I vented slightly. Even then you could see on the techs faces that I had a point, but nothing they could do. Mine hasn't failed and isn't as badly rusted as the one pictured, just bothers me a $50k or so car back then new doesn't have proper corrosion warranty to back up it's major parts. Oh yeah, the rep was jumping all over my mileage. I had 188k on it when she looked @ the car.
