HELP! Oil change

2001 E320 4Matic-

When I pulled my oil filter out, I didn't find the shaft that is suppose to be in the middle of the oil filter. Is this true for some models of benz?

Regards,

Kai

I'm pretty sure there is supposed to be a black plastic shaft, but I could be wrong. If it didn't have one it would be bouncing around I'm assuming....

plastic shaft? not metal? my 97 oil filter can is in a different location, but mine is all metal, shaft included. I am sure you can find that on benz parts store?

There are all kinds of o-rings on this shaft, so you can probably assume that without it not much filtering is happening.

Get a new cap.

Damn,... I think it is stuck in the engine somehow... tried to pull it but was afraid I might break it.

I have seen a couple of those shafts come off. I would suggest you go get a new oil filter assembly (cap, shaft, filter) and then just pull the old one out. Unless you are pulling it at some strange angle then it shouldn't break off.

Here is a step by step DIY guide for your oil change. It also shows you what the plastic shaft looks like....since yours is missing I agree with the above comment and get a new cap, shaft, o-rings. goodluck!

1.) Filters I purchased at my local auto store just tell them you want a oil filter + O-rings for your 2001 W210 Mercedes-Benz E320 4Matic

2.) Depends on your model, check your manual that came with the car. I use 5-30W Synth Mobil 1.

3.) There is a drain plug at the bottom of the oil pan, you must remove the plastic shidld on the bottom of your vehicle to access the oil pan.

4.) Use a turkey baster

5.) Bought aftermarket, non-OEM, headlights off ebay....search W210 Head lights
