Does anyone sell the new style smart key since apparently oempartsdirect does not carry them anymore?

Only the dealer can sell them.

Well thanks so much for telling me what I already know lol. What I meant is does anyone other than the dealer sell them, like what have been previously discussed above. oempartsdirect used to but not anymore. I'm looking for stores like that.

I got in touch with the dealer and they sell it at $240+tax = $271. I live in Toronto, Canada. I think that's ridiculously expensive since my car just went into service maintenance and it only cost me $380. The price comparison is just mind boggling. It's a key for god's sake not a spark plug.

So does anyone know?

What part of what I said is not clear?

Let me say it again slowly...

Only the dealer can order a key.

Is it clear?

Welcome to Canadian dealer ripoffs. You should count yourself lucky. Guy in Pakistan was quoted $800 for a key.

Well, obviously not since oempartsdirect used to carry them. It won't be for long until another company does the same thing. It's a desired market, really.

can continue to hope for cheaper but from my experience...and following this
for years, yeah...when pigs fly. $150-ish is about the lowest price around.

Thanks Raymond!

Who is this Phil? Is it the same guy from formymercedes.com? I just emailed them and they are asking for my VIN#. I have yet to get a quote from them as to how much it costs in terms of the smartkey itself, reprogramming and shipping to Toronto.

Will keep you all updated.

USD$175 for all, shipping included.

Have you ordered from that website before? Gerald Jones is the one who contacted me back. He needs my driver's license, proof of ownership and VIN#, which all makes sense. I just wanted to know that they are legit?

Additionally, they do no refunds/exchanges. How sure fire is this new smartkey will work with my car? I'm not very technical, but I do know that the VINs have to match, so everything should be okay, right?

Here is the deal. I did some more legwork because we need to have the full story on what is possible.

1. Phil at mercedesshop does not do keys anymore

2. Jerry at formymercedes will try to get one for you, but may get rejected for the reason I mentioned in the 497 other threads about this topic - security reasons.

The reason Jerry cannot accept returns is that the key will be useless to anything else once it is programmed. This I have also posted previously and is not a seller policy, it is a technical issue.
Other than that, if MB accepts the request and cuts the key, you won't have any problems with it. I got several of them before the ban by MB.

Had to buy a second key. Dealer total came to $230 with taxes. Still not sure that this will open the trunk...

You have to visit the dealer BMrox. At least that is how I understand it. There used to be places to buy them, but now you are stuck visiting the dealer and dealing with the 'friendly' parts people. Sigh, where did customer service go?

I mean I know the day the music died was a sad day and did cause drinking, but Donnie never wrote a song about customer service....

Also for two more cents, the new smart key cannot be used on the wagon or estate version. I have tried to get one and MB dealer in PA says no. I needed a replacement since my little one dropped it in the wash bucket and pushed all the buttons. It was aboout $200 for the new one and I could not get the smart key because of the trunk opener feature which the wagons in the W210 form do not have.

The keys need to be delivered with the VIN number of the car, if you buy a new key without programming with the VIN of the car it won't work, this way is why you only can assign 8 keys per control unit.. if you have 8 keys assigned & used, and need other new key (N° 9,10,11,12 etc) you need to replace the ME unit to assign othe 8 new keys

I have a 2000 wagon and the tailgate unlocks with the second press of the unlock button but has never opened like the trunk on sedans.

That deal is not around anymore - that post is 3 years old.
