New Key Style Smartkey...... Do they fit?

I wonder, Can I use this smartkey on my W210?
I have the smartkey as well.
Anyone care to share their experiences?

Yes sir. I was one of those who jump in the early bird deal ($61). Would never go back to the old key :-)

The new one is drop dead gorgegous !!. Range seem to be better than the old one a bit. My car is a 98, first year w/ smart key.

1. Yes, I had that key too (original key, long one), then I move to the shorter version, and to this version.

2. Yes.

Thanks Zam, can you pls share the part number?
So I just need to walk to a dealer with the part number right?
How about programming it to work on the car?

Can you program it yourself or does the dealer have to?

at least one report of frequency differential used by Smartkey for cars sold in US
vs other (or just Europe). so be sure you purchase the properly configured key
for your car.

OEMPARTSDIRECT handles this by mail order. search the forum; this mail order

Yes, it's the same part number among all Mercedes using smartkey.

Did you order a NEW "short" key ? if so, put it in the ignition key for 12 hours, it'll learn & self program itself, then you can turn & start the engine.

If it's a used key (already used on other car), there's no chance.

I guess I will go ahead and order this one too. Just wanted to know what the procedure is if ordered online. Who will program the keys ? Do I have to take the new short key to the dealer ? the 12 hour routine you mention, what does that accomplish ?

it already comes preprogrammed, you don't have to worry about anything.
all you have to do is insert key in ignition and leave it there for about 20-30 secs, then turn and start car

I ordered one too but I didn't even have to do this, it was ready to use immediately. No instructions came with it, so if I had to do what Eurosport is saying, I would have become frustrated very quickly.

yes oempartsdirect.com is legit.. i order my key for $118 ($114 for smart key and $4 for the blade key)with $10 shipping.. to california.. total of $128... once you place the order.. fill in the application, part number, whatever... and email...
next.. they'll send you a confirmation on your order, then a seperate email for you to FAX in or EMAIL a copy of your registration and driver's license making sure the license matches up with registration to the CAR.... (i know it sounds fishy, but i assure you guys its safe..) then when that is complete.. wait a couple days they'll send you a tracking from FED EX...

when the key arrives, its already PROGRAMMED!!! thats why they need your Vin # , its in their system, it doesn't MATTER what car you have.. , they'll know by the VIN.. then FAX the registration corresponding to vin, to assure that its going to the owner.. thats all....

DO NOT BUY ANY KEYS SOLD ON EBAY!!! BENZ DEALER WILL NOT RE-PROGRAM iT!!!

yes, i love this key!!! if some of you guys have it... you guys know how AWESOME it is....

ohh i forgot to mention you can check your status after you place your order.. so no worry guys

update on the new style key

it is now the only option for keys
you can not go and order the old style keys
so do not worry about the part number
just go to the dealer and give them your VIN nimber and they will order the new style key for you
also i did get 4 of these keys back in January and February from OEM parts direct with no problem

awesome key

Out of curiosity. My dealer told me that Benz may have up to 8 keys. So if you order a new key, does it count?
